Windows 7 64-bit Mouse Wheel not functioning

I've just installed Windows 7 64-bit and have noticed that the mouse wheel does not work when using GalCiv II Dread Lords. Not sure if you need a debug.err but here it is:

Have a similar issue with TA, Win7 64.

I can mouse wheel zoom minimap just fine but the main game window won't zoom at all.  Pretty much makes the game unplayable for me.

Generally mouse wheel issues are caused by third party mouse software changing the normal functionality. If you're not using any such software, you can still zoom using -/= if need be.

I had this problem with Logitech's mouse software running. Seems like setting it to universal scroll(what most use it for) makes it stop working in GC2. I just ended up disabling Logitech's crap since the mouse i have now doesn't need the extra buttons mapped.

It's an MS mouse with driver installed - works fine in every other game (fairly standard wireless mouse with one functoinal thumb button).  Works fine in GC2 except on main window (ie, zoom works on mini map and on tech screen).

I tend to zoom in/out a lot for overview vs local view - so used to that.  Keys will work but are so much more clunky vs mouse wheel. :(

I'll dink with the control panel for it or something.

Thanks for the response.

Switched from using windows 7 default mouse driver to the latest intellimouse 64 bit driver and no change.

I can wheel zoom the minimap only - can't wheel zoom main game window or research screen.

Really sucks.

Two MS drivers on an MS mouse and an MS OS.  Seriously doubting it's the mouse or driver.  I play a lot of games and use a lot of software and have yet to see the mousewheel fail on anything else.  :/

Kinda odd that the wheel works for minimap but nothing else in the game.

Gonna try playing using keyboard zoom but that's freaking barbaric.  :P

I also tried various compatability options/settings, windowed mode, various mouse settings.  Nothing.

SOLVED...I think.

I was reading around and found this thread:

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7hardware/thread/075a8659-7b3d-4a38-b08d-8451184cf2cb

One reply in there said to set the connected device to be a different mouse with the same button config - and now I can scroll in GalCiv2.  I haven't tried enough of my other apps to see if any of them will misbehave but it's looking good so far.

Instead of my actual Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 I had to select IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0.

So it is/was apparently a problem with the mouse driver/software - thanks again for the other replies!

Got a similar problem. Using win 7 (x64) and before installing the game everything worked fine. Install GC2 and the mouse went crazy. It auto scrolls, all the time. Quit the game, it STILL auto scrolls in everything. Uninstalled the game, drivers and it still auto scrolls. This is unbelievable.

I bought GC2 3 years ago. I deleted it then after 2 weeks from the serious bug issues. I thought maybe, just maybe Stardock would have solved them - not. I'll keep working on the problem, since I need a mouse, however, the new game Elemental, which looked so good has been crossed off my list. From what I have read, it was released in a pre-beta format and is even worse than GC2. How can a company with such great ideas release such amazing games with so many bugs to make them unplayable?

added: If you uninstall the auto updater, it might help. Worked for me. It's unfortunate that even a small updating software package is full of bugs. Get with it Stardock!!!!
