Sensors? Fog? Detecting hostile ships?

Hi,

Looking for advice on a few topics...

1.  Do sensors clear away the fog?

2.  Can my ships only detect other ships that are outside of that fog?

3.  How can I get my ships to detect enemy ships when they enter my space?  It seems I've had too many enemy ships able to sneak into my territory and blast away my starbases.  I've parked fleets on my starbases, but that didn't work.  Do I have to set them to defend while on the starbase?  I thought it would work like when they are in orbit around a planet.  Should I make a few small fleets with large sensors and park them futher away from my planets in order to see enemy ships sooner?

4.  What setting should I use to auto-detect enemy ships?  I'm playing on immense galaxy and I have a ton of planets, so cycling through them every turn to see if any enemy ships are closing in just doesn't seem like it's the best way.  Takes too long.  The "guard" option doesn't seem to work too well.  How far out will a ship in "guard" detect another ship?

Thanks!

If stacked, the most dangerous ship in the stack usually fights first. So don't arm your SB and it will be attacked the last in the stack.

I'm affraid that's the only option. Or build the "Eyes of the universe" "wonder" at the end of the sensors tech branch and all your ships and SBs will get 15 parsecs scan range. That's the most you can get from the game besides cheating by revealing the map.

IMO, all of your influence area should be clear and visible.  I wouldn't mind seeing this in a future patch.

Eyes of the Universe is as powerful as any weapon or engine you can research.

Gotta get your eyes, I usually go after that one as soon as possible.  Sensor range becomes quite expansive with that.  If you can't cover your perimeter with fighters, build cheap scouts and place them where you need to.  Putting ships on guard or sentry makes the game automatically select the ship after the turn button is pressed when your ship sees an enemey approaching.  Otherwise, enemy ships can not be detected when they are inside the fog.
