Last person to post wins, unless they are a moderator or admin.

Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. If the thread is won by method of locking, the "winner" gains the Achievement Of Reprehensible Epic Lameness.

I do try to keep up to date on the latest virus schemes. Not all are on naughty websites.

Got an older machine working, but it doesn't have as much on it and it's XP.  Has GalCivII though.

Can someone give an idea toward what the dollar amount could be if I have a shop take care of the problem of recovering from the trojan?  I suspect master boot record is compromised.  I'm on a fixed income, and may have to wait until next month to get anything done.  Most of February's money is already spent.

That can be highly variable based on the number of smaller IT businesses around you. Pop into a couple of the small businesses and see what they say. If they insist on getting their hands on it before giving you a ballpark, then just forget it. Most should have an idea what a wipe would cost you.

Getting a virus that deep in your system out is best left to professionals. Just be careful they don't add their own programs. *glares at Geek Squad*

True,I was just pointing out that money and level of tech ability are equally important.

Of course, but it's been a ong tie since I've dealt with this sort of thing and last time I nearly bombarded the bug into oblivion myself. My inexperience as of late aside, I waas hoping there might be sme use of common sense without my say so.

Good luck with the comp, Don.

lol I have long ago stopped assuming for common sense. Even with myself. :P

That's a painful thought. I mean the self doubt. Then again, every time I go against my instincts, it bites me in the butt.

Heheh, I like this guy, he's amusing.

And as for the virus, I'm guessing all your system restore points are gone?

Rescue key files, scan them externally to make sure they're not carrying it, then delete everything. Only way to be sure.

PS don't listen to my advice. I might be held responsible.

I had first tried a restore point from Feb 1 which didn't get rid of it.  I then tried an automatic restore point from Jan 26, but it didn't seem to work either.  When I read up on the particular trojan, it says one of its methods is to write to the master boot record.  Don't have a system boot disk as comp was shipped with software already installed, and no guarantee it would be safe if I created one now, even though that's supposed to be protected on a separate partition.  If I'm wrong about this, maybe I can get rid of it that way, I used that method before on another machine.  I have about 20 gig of downloaded and original models I want to backup before I try anything drastic or let anyone else touch it.  I think a pro is going to have to handle it, but I need to know if this is going to cost several hundred dollars.  If that's the case, it might be 3 or 4 months before I can ransom the computer back.

Yeah, this is almost the most depressing that this thread has been. Hope you manage to get that stuff recovered, even if they have to pull off the files, double check them for trojan attachments and then wipe the drive.

This is how music videos should be. I've been trying to get people to support this idea for over a year now. Makes since that T-ara would try out my idea. They did always see things my way. So buy an HD cable, hook your laptop up to your TV, put this video on, go to fullscreen, get the whole family, and enjoy an amazing sad story by T-ara. Support my friend  Jiyeon in her music career.

P.S. Love you tesb  <3
