Ultimate Edition CTD on Startup

Help!

Here's the email I sent to [email protected]. I'm posting it here so hopefully I can speed things up (since it is a weekend, after all).

I just installed the Ultimate Edition and I'm getting a CTD when I attempt to run it. At first I was getting the error "Your drivers may be too old..." and then "WARNING: DirectX Acceleration is not enabled...", and then the screen would flicker and go back to the desktop. I tried the solution here: http://windowsfixup.com/2009/05/windows-7-build-7122-fixes-game-issues/ but it did nothing. I did manage to get it to start once (I'm not sure why or how), but then I quit and couldn't get it back. I've also tried running it in XP SP2 compatibility mode, and then I only get the second error, but it still just flickers for a while and then quits. I've attached the debug.err which conveniently has all my system information.

Some additional info so you don't have to parse the debug.err below:

Win7 RC build 7100, 64-bit. nvidia 8800gt, latest drivers (190.38). (It seems to be a graphics issue.)

I changed the starting resolution to 1600x1050 (same as my desktop) in the prefs.ini and now it flickers a bunch, then hangs with most of the screen black and the cpu at 50% and using ~7megs RAM. I'm not sure if that tells anything.

One last update: it works if I do it in windowed mode. I'm currently playing with the resolution set to 1600x1050 (same as my desktop) in windowed mode.

So... that works for now! What am I missing by not having fullscreen mode?
