Really early WIP

Really early WIP

This may be a VERY ambitious project for my skills, but I think I'm going to attempt to create that Steam Punk Windowblind that someone requested a long time ago.  It's going to take a long time, because I'm going to have to learn a bunch of new Photoshop techniques, but what better than a project to learn those techniques and build new skills, right?  This is just a zygote of a start menu -- lots of stuff to learn and add, but I just thought I would toss it out here for any suggestions and ideas from my fellow skinners. (also...if you think this project is totally out of my league, I'd appreciate you letting me know that, too...gently, of course).

gears are required to move when used in a start menu

There you go, Karen--now you HAVE TO whirl the whirligigs.

Here's an idea that would be cool if possible for a start menu animation, have the startmenu seem to rollup from the taskbar using the gears and pulley's and whatnot.  That would be sweet.

I'll let you get a little further along, Karen. Then , when you're ready, send me some PSD's or whatever you have and I'll do my best to please. Gonna be a goodun'!!

Ditto, if You don't mind :) I think My gears are starting to turn for a RightClick!

That WOULD be sweet....but I think that's way beyond my knowledge or skills.

Is that possible?

doubt it.  all the startmenus seem to appear like a popup...probably in the OS that way.  would be cool though.  a dx theme prolly could do it.

The bar, the tube, the hose, the gears...it's ALL being raised.  Now if we could just get either Windowblinds or DesktopX to brew us coffee and do the dishes, too! \o/

The words on the menu would not roll up, but you probably could have the menu roll up behind the words.....

The actual menu parts could be very transparent and the animation could play once and then stay up on the last frame...

I think it could work...but the timing of the gears and chains and panel would be difficult to pull off.

I really know nothing about it..........but if it ends up being to difficult,  what about if after the menu pops up, You have either something like what Po posted in reply #1, one single door that raises vertically, some expanding gates ( the criss cross kind, like in an old elevator ) or do them all one after the other......kinda like in Get Smart.

THAT could definitely be done...I'm thinking maybe the criss cross kind with glass and gold filligree and rich mahogany wood, keeping it as Victorian as possible.

I think I can do it in DX if I can just get a good animation on the gears, Karen.
