Limit the number of players per Empire

Limit the number of players per Empire

If there is to be any realistic competition between the Empires it looks as though there is going to need to be a limit to the number of players that can join an empire. Most Empires have less than 10 to 20 players yet some are showing as many as 55, 88, and 95 players in them. This makes the competition between the Empires not about how well your players play the game, but how much time you invest into recruiting more players. I believe each Empire should be limited to 20 players or less.

Also what happens in the case of the the Texas Republic where our Empire controller (Senate) seems to have vanished from the Empire?

Any comments on this would be appreciated.

Whether for noble sounding ideals or geographic coincidence, people are drawn together into a single purpose: to figure out how to change the rules so that their bitmap appears closer to the navigation toolbar.

A little bit more seriously though, even though my own empire would benefit from limiting membership, I am against this proposal. Empires are just a fun add-on to what is otherwise a single player game. An also, these are EMPIRES! They're supposed to be big. It isn't like teams, or squads, or even armies. If you want to add an entirely different system to galciv whereby teams compete for trophies, riches, and slaves, then move somewhere where slavery is legal, and convince Brad or T-Man that an additional multi-person scoring system is worth the development effort. But don't mess with EMPIRES.

I just want to thank everyone who responded to this string and thanks for the invitations to join other empires. I appologize if some took my message as though I was frustrated with the Texas Republic. I am not. We are around 20th with only about 10 active players and so we are not doing that bad. I was only looking at the numbers of players in some of the other empires and wondering how the smaller empires are going to be able to compete with that. But I definately don't think the Empires should turn into a race to recruit the best or the most players. You all had some good ideas and made good points so thanks. :)

Better beer.

What's politics without republicans and democrats...

A genuine choice other than Big Government and Bigger government.

Whats hockey without Americans and Canadians?

European Hockey.

Actually, the comment didn't refer to the number of members. They were trading jibes on fairness in spamming. That is what the pot calling the kettle black referred to. Both were totally spamming, yet both ragged on each other for it.

Oh really? Then how come you don't mention anyone else?

Swissssssshhhhhh Slam Dunk. We are the apple of their eye....

Didn't know they played hockey. My understanding is that Australia is one of the top 3 hockey countries in the world in both mens and womens. With others like Holland and India up there.

And one of my suggestions is that:
Wouldn't it be really cool if being a member of a Top 10 Empire gave you a title and being in a Top 3 Empire (or probably Top 4) gave you a medal. Or something like that. That would give the Empire competition a little more *cough* zest.

And gosh, with the MWC as competition, who needs an enemy?

What is the point of having a empires with only 9 or 20 or x number of players? Just because one empire has more players than another doesn't mean it's unfair. It means that the larger empire did something right to recruit those players. Don't like it? Figure out a way to get more players, or resign yourself to playing for fun and ranking yourself against empires of comparable size.

Yea, shouldnt be a limit, buuut doesnt mean we cant
have fun.

Filters

Pirates: 1-5 members
Pirate Kingdom: 1-10 members
Kingdom: 1-25 members
Empires: Everyone

Default would show everyone, but you could
filter the list based based number of members outlined
above, fairly harmless though it will cause some
empires to limit their membership which may not
be the best thing, but might still be worth it.

This is called a compromise, a soft limit rather then
the hard limit first suggested.
