Class 62 Planet

What do I do? I think I remember seeing a thread somewhere around where someone had a similar 'problem'

To give some insight into how I got such a high quality planet, it was originally something like a class 16 planet, which then got, not one, but two events in fairly rapid succession where my people discover an Arnor artefact, or something like that, which doubles the planet quality. Once my weather zenith is built, it goes to class 65.

So far, as you can tell with the pic, I've gone for a decent economic capital, considering the Korath were good enough to build me an economic capital for me when I, ummm, requisitioned it. I think I might add a few more factories, starport, another farm or two, plus a number of entertainment structures, and basically make it a site where I pump out troop carriers and get the economy rolling.I don't think having it as a politcal capital will help much, I'm more inclined to conquer to garner some influence for myself.

Of course, I still need to research toxic world colonisation yet, it's coming.

Fill it up with Stock Markets! Once you get a decent population civ-wide, raise your tax rates to the point that the population rate *just barely* continues to grow. Then, use the massive ecomomic weapon that this planet will become to rush-buy your way to galactic military domination!!!! Bwohahahahha!

I never got an event that I find an Artifact. Is there something specific I should do or is it just blind luck?

Cool planet by the way.

End of Solam's quote

I've seen folks post various theories about events and some of us are at least half-convinced that playstyle somehow affects which events you're likely to see, but there's also a pretty good case for 'random' being a very serious adjective.

Strato, is that the Tir-Quan building also on that planet? Talk about a prize conquest!

I'd think it's actually a shame the the Tir-Quan Traning structure is there, but that only demotes the planet by one tile for buildup purposes.

With the Econ Cap, I'd go with 2 farms to get the tax bonus.  Stock markets on every other tile would be a good thing.  I wouldn't even build a Starport on it.  Using it to produce troops would kill the Econ Cap and Stock Market bonuses.  I'd think you'd want the max return on a planet like this.

I'd be tempted to go all tech on it myself, but that would depend on your economic strength.

Taking the Tir-Quan is a shame? Silliness. That bonus pays back beaucoups in terms of invasion troops who survive and go right to work. And with 62 tiles, sheesh, you'd gripe about one not fitting into whatever monoculture you want to lay down?

But then I was inordinately fond of the Tir-Quan even before I read Diary of a Terran Soldier.

I'm talking about efficiency.  Hardly worth your ire.

The Tri-Quan isn't a shame in itself, but any building that can't be removed will lessen the impact of a single use planet.  That's the advantage of having a large PQ planet.  Any single use will outperform a "Jack of all Trades" type of build.  Squandering the build will result in mediocre performance for your empire.  A few Stock Markets here, a few Galactic Achievements there.  Maybe some factories and labs thrown in.

Why wouldn't you want to realize the potential of such a planet?  It has a lot of potential, but potential is nothing by itself.

It's kind of like those who win the lottery thinking that they now have unlimited funds.  They end up not knowing why the money ran out.

Ideally, the Tri-Quan and any other GAs should be on a low PA planet where they won't interfere with more efficient usage of production.

Yes, it certainly is the Tir-Quan training centre. Perhaps I am showing my noobishness here, but I always believed that it was a useful achievement to develop, but in this case, it was already built for me.

So, what did I do? Turns out I got an event which increases tourist income 5 times the usual amount, so in effect, I was gushing cash, which mean research labs were laid down. As I played this game tonight, I screwed myself over pretty bad. Thalans won by tech victory, no early save to revert back to, and my own little Arcean empire, which had to fight adversity to get to where they were at lost out. I did get the planet up to 300 research points, and that isn't including a tech capital or omega research centre, just a whole lot of discovery spheres.

I'm annoyed because I should have just followed my intuition and maintained the attack rather than sitting by and researching to try and get some better starships happening. Utter failure.

Also, I think the luck is really screwed up in this game, because I have been getting a number of ranger class ships being discovered, so much so it is actually pretty annoying. They helped with the conquest of the Korath, but serve no real purpose now, except as target practice against the Thalan fleets, with their 300-400+ attack strength.

No, actually, it's a decent building.  Since it was already there, not a lot could be done about it.  I sometimes build it myself, but on a smaller planet.  I was just saying that the incredible planets like that one can be specialized to great effect.

Bummer about the Thalans.  I like your idea of pressing the attack.  That's been my style of playing since the beginning and it's always worked nicely for me.  I suppose the Thalans were too far away to destroy quickly.

Here's hoping that you'll get another killer planet in the near furture.  They can make the game interesting.

I used to hate getting the Rangers back when I did.  They're so slow and when I got them, I generally didn't have the tech to upgrade them.  They weren't worth much when decommissioning them, but that was my only real option.  I never get them anymore because I build up my military before the event becomes available.

Yeah, I had the Torians sandwiched in between myself and the Thalans, and the Torians should have been removed, but the danger was the other races declaring war on me while I mop up the Torians. I built a starbase above them to extend my range, but too little too late in effect. The thing is though, with my espionage spending, it wouldn't have made much of a difference, I found out my worlds were fairly safe from attack because most of the opponents had only a small handful of attacking craft, and my soldiering was so high relatively speaking that attacks were of little consequence to my population on the planet.
