Random events won't show up.

I downloaded DL, DA and TOTA through impulse and updated them.I have random events on frequent. When i start a game and play no events at all pop up even after the 50th turn.

It has to do with the conditions you're playing in and how gameplay is progressing against or in your favor; Mega events are there to stir things up when any particular "situation" triggers it.

Example; Jagged Knife -- this normally happens when everything is neutrally boring in the galaxy and  everyone (AIS & you, again) is safely tucked in their own territories and enjoying a status-quo.

It's also a roll of the dice; what are the odds in Casino craps that i'd throw an eleven twice in a row? The parameters & calculations are MUCH more complex in GC2.

50 turns is a very low figure on a Gigantic map too, btw.

Actually I was playing on a small map and I was talking about the events with the Good, Neutral, Evil choices.

I'm confused. Where is the setting that allows you to determine the *frequency* at which random events occur?

AFAIK there is only the ability to enable or disable *Mega* events in DA and TA. Mega events are not quite the same as random events although I do believe they are similar in their occurance.

However to hopefully answer your question *random* events can not occur before Oct 8 of the 2nd game year which is the 86th turn of the game and even then there is only a small *possibility* per turn of having one. I *suspect* that Mega events operate the same as random events.

Ah. Those are colonization events and again I don't believe there is any kind of setting to change the frequency of their occurance.

Also once you've researched Xeno Ethics and have picked an alignment then you no longer get these but I assume that this is not your case.

If you haven't researched Xeno Ethics then I'm guessing that you should get one every 5th colonization or so. Again that's just a guess on my part, you could get events on 3 colonizations in a row or you could go 10 colonizations without one. How many planets did you colonize in the 50 turns that you mention?

About 20

That does seem like a lot of planets colonized without a colonization event, but if you had said 10 I wouldn't have been surprised and 20 is not really outside the realm of possibility.

It's tough to really prove anything, particularly when these kinds of statistics of the game are not something that's published. It's just something that you get a feel for how frequently they occur. I also suspect that the frequencies of colonization events and the distributions of the occurances of which of these events you get are different for each of the different versions of the game.

The bottom line is that it sounds to me like you just were unlucky.
