Use of Rally points?

Hello everyone!

Maybe someone has already asked this question or maybe there already exists information about it, but the searchfunction seems to be out of order...

Anyway, I dont think I am using Rally points optimally. It always comes down to alot of micromanagement anyway. My biggest problem is when I want to attack somebody. Then I put a rally point somewhere around the territory of my enemy and then I manually order the ships I want to attack with to go there (I dont want to attack with my entire fleet so then I manually have to select the ships I´m attacking with, right?). Once they arrive, they go and do there thing, i.e. annihilating the enemy. But once they have accomplished around that rallypoint what I set up for myself to accomplish, then I want the SAME ships to go to next rally point. Now here is what I´m missing. Do I once again have to manually order the ships to go to the next rally point or is there a way to make the ships I ordered to go to the first rally point to go to the next one.

Ohh, I hope I made myself clear...

By the wya, if somebody have any good way to use Rally points (in any aspects) I would be happy to hear about them cause I sometimes thinkt this game often is just about shovelling spaceships back and forth...

One idea is to set a rally point to a starbase under construction, then have planets automatically launch constructors to that rally point.  Combined with automating build order, you could ignore an SB after its initial placement until it is finished.

Or, have tour planets building attack fleets pointed to a fleet rally point and then manually move the fleets after they are assembled as you wish.

Go to the Civilization Management (?) tab and go for Governors.  In the same menu where you can change up build orders Civ wide, there's also a mass-change order for rally pointing.  Basically, you can reassign planets assigned to one rally point to go to another.

Re next attack target, you can simply move the rally point and any ships that haven't reached it yet will redirect to the new destination. When you have a rally point selected, you'll see a Move button down in the info area. Click it, and then click your new desination.

Re searching for stuff, go to a good 3rd party search site, type your search terms, and then add site:forums.galciv2.com

That will narrow your results to just this forum.

I set rally points to 3-4 "staging areas" for a campaign and then send ships to the nearest one. Works well when you're in a multiple front war on immense maps. They'll auto-combine into fleets at the rally point until they hit your logistics cap. Then you send them off to cause mayhem.

Dispatching 'process' can also be used from clicking on the icons right near the planet image on the main galactic screen while popping up the necessary tiny menu instead of having to go through the Governors trick suggested above.

Beside the spying button, the rallying menu is another great shortcut to monitor which multiple activities relate to any particular point(s) pre-defined and/or easily relocated by simple clicks.

It is some micman in itself, but HUGELY lowered once you realize how powerful the feature is.
