New Mod Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

New Mod Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

Brand new mod

http://rapidshare.com/users/H9VZFH

A brand new mod just came out called Star Trek Vs. Star Wars. This mod is only compatible with TA. It replaces all major and minor races and each race has its own unique ship style, Tech Tree and Planetary Improvements. This mod focuses on conquest victory so you start the game with most of the techs enabled. This mod includes components already made from kryo, AF_Ronin, and Master U.

You Can Download it and other mod related links by Clicking Here

Here is a screen shot:

 Star Trek

To install it, just unzip everything to the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Twilight\Mods\Default

Please let me know what you think of this mod. Thanks.

@MrNiceGuy - No you're not in trouble, and delete it if you feel bad about having uncredited work on your HDD. Or keep it. No one cares very much or will ever do anything about it.

Obviously this guy just took a bunch of different resources from many different mods and put them together in a big almagamation, without and proper credits whatsoever. All of that is painfully obvious. I think the only thing actually "stolen" is kyro's work. The rest is just unowned work that is uncredited. Don't quote me on that, I didn't look into all of the resources, I just DL'd and picked it apart for the pieces I wanted. IMO, which is obviously 300% fact, You don't own anything you make based off of an established IP, you deserve kudos and all that good stuff, but not ownership. Extensive editing or not, if it can down to the nuts and bolts, you stole from the original IP to make your works, so your claim at ownership is nil. You still deserve credit for your work, but the langauge people use bothers me.

I'm glad he did this though, because although I thought I had the Star Trek models saved somewhere, I didn't, and this has given me a chance to redo my own mashup mod. I'm not going to upload mine, because I couldn't credit the original authors even if I wanted, but still, Thanks for the uploads, even if it was at the expense of you being morally dubious.

Every time I select a race and hit next, it thinks I have selected a custom race. Whats wrong?

That is happening because of an error in the code. That problem though is fixed in the second expansion pack. You can download all the expansion packs for this mod at:

Make sure that under options the the mod is looking in the right directory which is:

 C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Twilight\Mods\Default

If it isnt then click change then click default then click done.

I wasn't suggesting otherwise, my only point was that kyro was claiming ownership on their mod, when there is no actually ownership of property in the situation of modding. Like how I sarcastically stated, 'You can't Mod a Mod.' Well why not? That seems to be anti-conductive of the purpose of mod, which is to change, make better or add new elements to the retail version of game. So modding a mod is the same thing, if developers like SD encourage, allow and provide assistance for modding, which modders apperciate right? Then how can a modders then try and make claim and ownership of NOT modding their mod, when they were given the go-ahead by the developers of the game to begin with. Seems contradictive and hypocritical to me.

seconded.

if you don't want people to "steal" your work, don't realease it to the public. if you want your content to be yours; put copyrights on it. Of course you cannot do that when its STAR TREK or STAR WARS content since it was never yours in the first place.

And I don't recall giving permission or even being contacted by you regarding the Star Wars Logos I created a while back
End of quote

Unless you are Lucas.

I am a modder also. I release mods to the public and have no thoughts they won't be used, in some way, by someone else. if you made a great mod and it is getting used by many other people, you should be happy that that many people consider it good enough to use. if you made a crappy mod or took years developing it in secret so no one could steal it, then you should have no worries about someone taking your content.

btw, I do credit other modders in my mods, but that doesn't stop me from using bad ass content.

Well, I generally assumed that my mods would be completely public when I released them, but I fear that after this bit of... ambiguity I may have to put in a bit of a disclaimer about how to use them.

Thanks, unfortunatly now every time I select a civ I have to completly create everything as if it was a custom civ.  I can choose the right ship designs but everything else I have to adjust.  I am using 6.0 version.  Sorry for the inconvience.

It sounds like you dont have the newest expansion pack that solves that problem. You can download the newest version here:

Hope that helps.

Hmm... it has only come to my attention now that some of the things I made are used in this mod... I have no problem if you use it as long as you give credits but geez... I would had appreciate it if you'd bother to send me a PM or e-mail asking if you can use my stuff. I would of course be glad and say yes, but at least I'd like to know where my stuff is used.

Okay, from a member of the ST Mod, just weighing in on this whole debate, I am NOT speaking for the mod team, nor for Han, nor for Knight...

Simply, just should of went seeking an "okay" first. It's kind of like the old sentiment of asking a woman's (or man's if you swing that way and if it was legal) father for their hand in marriage....it's a nice gesture, but you don't need it in order to marry them.

Besides maybe being a bit disgruntled about the fact that wasn't done, don't see much of an issue...the ST team stole used things from both GalCiv2 and Star Trek, same with the Bab5 and Star Wars mods respectively. I know for a fact that some of the ships we used in the ST mod were not created by us, but we did make an attempt to contact every single person who's ship model we used for permission prior to putting it in. To my surprise, every body we could get in contact with had no problem, because we contacted them.

Like BrandenK said (btw Hey BrandenK, how's it been?) - it's about ethics.

It's not illegal, and if it is, well I'm sure it would be hard to explain to the judge that X person stole Y image/ship/video from your mod that you took from company Z.

If you are downloading this from scratch then yes you will need to download all 8 expansion packs. I know that it will take a while to do that, but I had to break it down since this mod is so big.

Ok so I know that it is a pain to download this mod in little pieces so now you can download the complete mod with just one download. You can download the complete mod at:

Thanks.

They would never bother sueing anyone. It would be a huge waste of money. At worst, they will send a letter telling him to stop. And the only other thing that could happen, and is much, much more likely, is that they'll completely ignore it and not care.

The test if somone will chase you on copyright will be 'money'. If they think they could be missing out on any? Are you making any? Do they feel you could be disrupting their ability to make money in the future? Otherwise, yes, 'not caring' will be the primary reaction.

Hello everyone, just wanted everyone to know that except for a few errors I have to track down, this mod is completed. Since the complete mod is so big, about 1.5 GB, I have made it available as a torrent. You can either just Google Star Trek Vs. Star Wars Game Torrent or you can get it here:
