how are trade blockands sopossed to work?

i think i read somwere i can block enemy ships cause two ships can take up the same square so if i find a trade route i wish to block all i need to do is block the 1 parcet of the trade route and it will stop there or will it go around my one ship.

if it does go around the 1 ship would say 3 be enough to keep it from going forward. btw i dont want to distroy the ships that could lead to war faster.

Well you can surely ruin a trade route by shooting all the little freighters. I got a message saying one of mine was in danger of going defunct if it got hit anymore; I'm sure it works the same way in reverse. So that is even better than a blockade.. they lose the route permanantly.
