I just downloaded Gal Civ II and the Altarian Propicies and just after starting the game freezes...Help?

Altarian Prophicies is an expansion to galciv 1 I think, so if you are trying to play that w/o having galciv 1 installed, it may be the issue.

So you already had Galciv I and then purchased Galciv II and the expansion to Galciv I (Altarian Prophacy)?

There's understandable confusion.

There are many versions:

GalCiv1 (OS/2 version) 1994

GalCiv2 (OS/2 version) 1995

eventually followed by the following Windows versions:

GalCiv1 2003

GalCiv1: Altarian Prophecy 2004?

GalCiv2: Dread Lords 2006

GalCiv2: Dark Avatar 2007

GalCiv2: Twilight of the Arnor 2008

I think Loupdinour and many others tend to think of the 2 version that I've bolded as GalCiv1, and consider Dread Lords to be the first GalCiv2, although GalCiv1 is sometimes called GalCiv2 due to it's relation to it's OS/2 counterpart.

According to Impulse I have version 1.22.104, last updated on 8/1/2008 and altarian prophecy version 1.52b.0 updated on 8/1/2008.

Should I have something else?

Well, for the altarian prophecy issue, I'd say you may have luck looking over at that second link Davablend has there.

These galciv boards are for Galciv II Dread Lords / Dark Avatar / Twilight of the Arnor.

Never say that... I still got the first MoO installed, Lord of Magic....Starcraft.  Newer doesn't mean better, but I'm not going to tell you to not buy gc2 DL/DA/TA since...well, it's good lol.

Oh, trust me I LOOOOVE the older games, most of what you listed plus games like X-Com, X-com 2, x-com apoc, stuff like that, I go for game play not graphics or anything.
