I see 2 libraries and 2 100% research bonus tiles.  Some manufacturing ones too, but I'd guess they're not as important.

I have one that barely beats it with two libraries and one 300% research tile.  I think KP had one with 3 libraries at one time.

Now i remember, it was some lucky (luxurious, might be a better word!) planet played by KP.

Question: do you guys get these monsters on all-abundant gigantic? Did you pick "luck" in your abilities? Do you ever have any precursor tile on your homeworld? How often did you ctrl+N to get something even remotely like this?

I very much doubt that planet was generated by the game. More likely a hack.

You will never get 2 700% research as well as 2 700% manufacturing tiles by 'luck'. Not to mention all the other ones.

I can recreate this, no problem. And even more. But it is only through cheating - modding the saved game file with a hex editor.

I have had 4 700% tiles before under these settings along with other bonuses. It is not uncommon to have all tiles of Iconis all be bonus tiles.

I think you all need to re-read Moosetek's post:  it uses such qualifying phrases as "more likely" and "very much doubt."  That said, in retrospect I would not necessarily use the word "cheating" to describe this kind of hack, but it could be applicable depending on one's point of view.  By the way, I've played this game many, many times and my usual settings are on immense galaxy, "rare" planets and suns,  and uncommon planets and abundant everything else.  I have yet to ever see more than one 700% research tile and one 700% manufacturing tile in the entire galaxy under those settings.  The best planet I ever had contained a 700%, two 300% and a single 100% manufacturing bonus tiles.  That happened once.  There were no other planets in the entire galaxy with another 700% manufacturing tile in that game. 

If not done through a hack, I would be curious if perhaps these "super" planets are related to using the shortcut keys to restart the game?  Although I've never used that shortcut, I am informed it does cause errors in the game.  Just a thought, but I still believe that planet above was more likely than not a hack.

 My settings were all rare and probably gigantic (can't say for sure cause it was a long time ago) and it was while playing DA not TA. To those who think we were cheating remember that the guys who are seeing these planets (KP, neilo, Motti, myself and others as well) have played ALOT of games (literally hundreds each), and Mostly ZYW's. If playing for ZYW's on gigantic, this also means alot of ctrl-n's since you have to be reasonably close to your opponent in order to have a chance on a gigantic map. That translates into ALOT of looks at planets. Also, i can't remember exactly but i think i read in a post somewhere that SD scaled back the number of possible bonus tiles on homeworlds. Can anyone confirm this. Maybe this was just for TA perhaps? If you still think we're cheating then fine, up to you. On to more important things.

What I will point out is that you said, in the same sentence no doubt, you would not use the word "cheating" to describe this kind of hack.  Well, a hack would be cheating.  Which I highly doubt any of them are.  So they aren't cheating, but you still think they are using a hack?

By your thinking, one could also say you must be a liar or a cheat as well.  You mention playing this game "many many times" yet you have no metaverse record.  I have never seen it, so you must be lying!!  Of course, logically I know you dont have to post MV games to prove you've played one, but we threw logic out with your first reply didnt we?

That's in that range of, having played D&D a lot, I have seen extraordinary rolls too often to presume cheating - I've never had the "all 18's" I've heard some people claim they got (albeit, never seen). but I have had 17 17 17 16 15 15.

On the other hand - I've also caught people cheating at penny ante poker.

Since the odds on that set of rolls is (going by http://www.fnordistan.com/smallroller.html using 'x' or better) (1/54^3)*(5/108)*(5/54^2) = 125/49589822592 or about 1 in 396,718,581, you can damn well bet if my DM had not seen the rolls made, I would not have had the opportunity to play that character.

It is not ignorance to posit that such things arising are, in all likelihood, not the result of random chance, even given the sure knowledge that they can in fact happen by chance. But it's no more 'ignorant' to suggest it than I would have been insulted for a DM not letting me simply tell him/her "Of course I rolled those - have you ever caught me lying to you before?".

The planets in question aren't particularly extraordinary.  If you play ZYWs and choose the norm, which would be gigantic (or immense in TA), rare everything, one enemy and 8 minors, you're almost assured of coming across one of these planets.  The odds are probably in the range of 5%, but I haven't worked them out.  I have seen 2+ libraries as many as 3 times in a single day. 

THe ZYW thread has a lot of information about these and it gives some pretty detailed instructions on what to do if you care to play this type of game.  Playing a variety of game types keeps it interesting.  The friendly competition makes it interesting too.

My reference to Moosetek's ignorance is based on his immediate spouting of "cheating" when he didn't even attempt to look at any other explanation, even with Zyp having posted a link to one of several threads explaining it.  Perhaps I should have included laziness and arrogance as well as ignorance.  My bad.
