I loved Galciv, but there's one point in the game that I always disliked... And I bought GalCiv: AP just to be able to come here and post this message. ::grins::

I'm begging you... Pleading with you...

Please have more techs that have some sort of non-numerical ability tied to them.

As it stands, there were only a handful of techs in Galciv that did something special. You could research how to talk to other races. You could research diplomacy options. You could see all the yellow stars in the galaxy. You could build Terror Stars. But what else? All the other techs just added numbers to more numbers, and the tech tree was muddled down with duplicate projects.

If the tech tree had more techs that did something unique and important, I'd pay more interest to it rather than just falling into the habit of researching the cheapest item available.

dding some of the replayability and fun back. Lets actually make research trees that change from game to game for all the races. Lets also add event driven research items to further spice up the fun.

is very appealing in a strategy game.

Anyways... I'd be more inclined to lean your way if the techs in Galciv actually did something.

fense upgrades that made a whopping difference - obsolete ship classes got a whole new lease on life. Maybe that's a better way to go.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this issue.

lly as well). The 'Tree' becomes more of a grid, with the player chosing to invest in inhabiting regions, and moving around in it.

Seems like a lot more fun to me

I'd love to see an auto research function, where you can select available techs to research in a certain order [if this wasnt already mentioned]

In like the GC1 there was a death star, will there be more weapons like this lurking in the dark in the new game?

hich is great. Matter is scarce in the Universe, none of it should be considered worthless.

, and made trading much more important.. I don't recall any game that has done the same after that, but it was a great system. Does anyone remember what I'm talking about? I think something like this might be a cool feature in GalCiv 2.

you. Other games the AI could colonise radiated planets.

The fact that no two games were the same is what makes me still play this game on a weekly basis years later.

e was hardest thing to learn about the game and if not for Javascouts web site I would have given up.

that level. You can however choose which techs to research from the options you're given. Options which change from game to game remove the tedious nature of research by making it far more interesting.

ch from a planet you took as long the alien had something you did not.

research to defend against strike forces or alternatively an additional espionage slider to apply bc's to counter strike forces. Also there could be additional techs to research to enhance the chances of a successful strike.

eapons/armour.

What do you guys think? (GalCiv context of course).

th that type of approach, but fear that it may add extra micromanagement.

into 5 areas or 50 into one and 25 into two others, etc. The idea that your entire empire would only research one area at a time is "unrealistic" IMO.

Very good point. I think I like this idea the best of all I have seen here.
