Best discovery ever

Well, today, while playing GC:Dread Lords, i recieved a message saying i have discovered a Precursor ship.......blah......blah.....Precursor Corvette.

Cool, right??

Well i go to check it out, and turns out, it isnt just ONE corvetter, but NINE fleets of TWELVE each!!!!

Yep, thats right....i "discovered" 108 Precursor Corvettes.

(it didnt matter because there were so many, when i tried to move them all, the game lagged to the point of extreme frustration/unplayable-ness X|  )

So, is this a super-rare glitch?? or does this happen to people a lot??

(as a side note, before this, the most Precursor ships i had ever discovered in one game was 9)

I have never seen that many.  Sorry it ruined you game.  Perhaps it has something to do with the relative power of other nationalities or relative galactic power??  I have only found one precursor vessel at a time (3 in one game though! All rangers).  I did once see a AI get awarded a fleet of Corvettes but they weren't that good (kindy crappy compared to what people were flying at that point).  The most I have seen was 10 or 12 or so but it was the result of several discoveries.

Drengin, Super Dominator Ability, declare war.

That's how that ability works - it gives you countless, nearly useless cannon fodder ships to throw at your opponent.

Zoom out to tactical level, and the lag goes away.

I've seen such ship bursts before, but I've never been the recipient.  The ships themselves are nearly useless, really only serving to be a major pain to chew through, or a potential hazard to my precious resource starbases.  Were I to get one, I'd more than likely just decomission the lot for cash, and rush-buy a good ship.  It really depends on the point when it happens.

Very cool discovery, I have never found a precursor ship yet, even after playing for several months. Good for you!

I have two quick suggestions for the laggy problem (which I did experience) to add to InfernalRS's comments. First, play around with the Throttle Frame Rate setting in the video options. Try it one way and then the next. Next, make sure your video driver's are updated. You can also fiddle with the other video options, but the first two made all the difference for me.

I've been playing a lot longer than that and I still have never seen one. I think maybe my games just end too soon.

You don't happen to have a save of that do ya? If so load it up and take a screenie for us all plz. i'd love to see that...just for shits and giggles sake.

And no that is not normal behaviour at all. I have been playing for nearly 3 years now and have maybe seen ~12 events of this nature. IIRC mil rating and luck play a big part in this event.

Precursor ships aren't the same as the dominator ability, this is something different he is speaking about.  Unless he got confused by a triggered dominator ability and thought they were precursor ships.  Precursor ships can be quite nice.  Just one ranger has turned the tide of wars for me (in the largest galaxy size which I always play).  They are usually the most powerful ship by quite a bit when they spawn.  The corvettes also spawn..  Those aren't that nice but are WAY better than dominator ships (which are so much space trash and should be rapidly decommishend).

Well ive been playing for a while, but honestly i dont know much about all the "abilities" and addons and stuff. But the corvettes themselves were crappy. i think 3 mass driver attack and thats it.

also, my computer is just a little old, and only has a single processor, so its a little on the side of weaksauce lol.

But, to reply to WTF_Chuck: One ranger was that good???

When i got those 9 ships in one game, they were ALL Rangers, and fairly useless, even on Normal difficulty. Mostly because they were all mass driver, attack/defense. and the other nations used other weapons, and the a.i. always seems to defend against MD's. I just upgraded them all to my own BS class. then they were bad a$$ haha.

For Neilo, Yes, I do have it saved. How do i put it on here though??

End of quote

The Ranger was improved for TA.  The new version (which doesn't always spawn, sometimes the older one will) has ~80-120 attack in each category and ~20-30 defense, also in each category, from memory.  Numbers might be slightly off, but it gives you the general idea.

Whilst playing and with the ships on screen, just hit CTRL + PRINT SCREEN, which will save the screenshot to the screenshots folder in My Games/GalCiv2. Upload the picture to your favorite image hosting site and then insert here.

If I got that event I'd upgrade as many as I could with a point of defense, set up military SB's, and rule the galaxy.
