Winning with intellegent AI

Instead of making the AI even smarter which would mean that more processing power would be needed, slowing game play.

Why not remove the cheats that players use to win at the high levels.

To start with.
Using the sliders should be droped.

Imagine a Government Taxing you at 60% and taking the money and spending 100% in the Miltary or Research. There would be riots and revolutions.

Spending 0 for social projects should not be tolerated even at war time.

The spending patterns and taxes should be attached to the government level you are on.

I think you shouldn't think of it as all the government's funds, but the excess funds, after all the minimal expenses are covered.

It's not that they are not spending any money on social spending, it's that there is no NEW spending on social programs. You're still paying the maintenance on all the existing social programs that were already built after all, don't forget about that.

Same thing with military, you have to support you existing military. (maintenance) you're just not spending any new money.

Although you can completely stop spending on research, if you did, you waste all that money you spent on social projects that multiply your researching funds. Anything multiplied by 0 is still 0.

Exactly all social projects already built get funded but if a government took all the money it racks in and did nothing but build new Warships we would be very upset.

I don't want to get into a national bias argument, eh, :), but first of all this IS a 4X game, not just a 2X game, and second if Earth was about to get invaded by a bunch of Drengin, I think people would be willing to see a whole lot of their money going towards military funding.

I'm sure I'm couching this wrong, but I believe that at the end of WWII 70% of the US government's income went for military spending.

Not if the Drengin were invading your rim systems. The people would be screaming for better warships and less holonets.

Well, the people in the rim systems would just be screaming.

Technician:

Why? If your standard of living is not getting worse, why would people be mad? All your existing social programs are still being funded, it's just that the new money is going towards military expenses.

Also, you have to suspend your disbelief a little. We're talking about a game where you're trying to survive in a hostile universe. You do what you have to do to survive, if that means, you have to wait a few extra years to get the new virtual reality centers well so be it.

Oh yeah, and don't forget, if you don't build any morale boosting social projects for a long time, your population's morale will most likely drop, and cause you to lose an election.

Seems fairly realistic to me, and that's all you can really expect in a game "fairly" realistic. If it was completely realistic, it probably wouldn't be fun to play.
