My Bug List

Bugs

First off, I think this is (could be) a great game.    Before I go further, let me say that I'm playing Twilight on a machine that easily exceeds the requirements of the game.  2.4 Ghz dual-core, 4 Gb RAM, running Vista

1. I have yet to finish a game without it crashing.  Its been crashing in 2 ways:  (1) if I play for an extended amount of time, like 5 or 6 hours straight, then it gets an out of memory error during one of the autosaves.  Sounds like a memory leak to me.  (2) sometimes the survey ships seem to get stuck making a routing decision and they sit there and toggle back and forth with a clicking sound.  When this happens, the "Turn" button is disabled and it never gets reenabled.  End up having to end the game in task manager and start over from last save.

2. Once in awhile for no apparent reason, I can't get the game to load saved games.  No idea what the problem here is.  I keep retrying and eventually it works.

You can work around this by clicking the "Next" button to auto-select the next ship with move points left. It seems the game sometimes gets stuck there and cannot skip those units, but if you find it through "Next" and move it manually the round finishes.

Thanks, I'll try that if it happens again.  I started to wonder if it might have to do with having the Auto-Survey and Auto-Explore both on at the same time.

I can't tell, but it always hits me if a ship autolaunched from a starport reaches it's fleet rally point and joining the fleet would surpass my logistics. I got used to it and take it as a reminder when a new fleet is filled up.

I experienced several of the described problems on older versions of the game (the "disappearing turn button," out of memory crashes and the pathfinding problems), but honestly have not seen them around for a long time (since the last series of Betas).  Are you (the OP) playing the latest version of the game?

I just downloaded the game about 2 weeks ago, so I would hope that its the latest.  My version says it is 2.02

Game just crashed on me again.  This time it was right after I completed a reserach.  It was still on the "Research Completed" screen, and it just froze up.  Had to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out.

By the way, I followed the instructions on the Bug faq and I have alread updated my video driver, and I made sure that my virtual memory was at least 6 Gigs.

That should be the latest version.  I would advise sending in the appropriate files to the developers.  There is a "bug reporting" sticky thread somewhere around here.  Another option is to uninstall and then reinstall the game.

Most crashes are due to driver problems. Check ALL (video, sound and processor) your drivers and make sure they are up to date...

Thanks for the tips.  I have to admit that this game has a great community of people on these forums to help us new guys out.  I was actually able to finish a game last night.  So today, I'm starting a new one to see if I can get through an entire game with no problems.
