Hi
When paying ToA or DA after several turns (usually when everyone is done colonising), the game slows down, but when i zoom out its ok..still slow but ok.any tips to fix..i usually play on gigantic and immense maps with everything common.
My PC specs are 64mb ati radeon9000 and 2.53Ghz and 512mb ram
You need more RAM and I'd say a Gfx card update should be in your near future as well. The larger all abundant maps can use almost all of the 2GB of RAM alotted to 32bit programs, so the game is dipping into the swap file probably causing some of the slowdown. The zoomed in slowdown is being exxagerated by the dated Gfx card also I believe. Short of an upgrade, you'll just need to keep turning down options. Some of the biggies are planet surface variety, specular intensity, and for me(before I upgraded) the ships showing in orbit would cause slowdown, but you'll just have to fiddle till you can get somewhat of a satisfactory experience. Mid/Late game on very large maps will require over 1GB of memory causing lots of swapping of virtual memory to/from your harddrive on a system with only 512MB of RAM. If you want to play the very large maps then upgrade your memory; otherwise, stick with medium maps.
I'm afraid your old graphics card is not up to the demands of the zoomed in view. Play zoomed-out (provides a better view of the overall action) or upgrade your video card.
