Wha..WHAT!!??

15 techs completed in 1 round

Well, again i have to start by saying i 'm still kinda new to this but...

But not so newbie not to understand that when you research 15 techs in one round doesn't feel weird. (and good too

I was playing on a tiny galaxy as Drengin against 5 races. Early in the game i started pissing off the Arcean neighboors with my poor defenders and while it was going well at the beginning, soon they started showing them frigates and i found myself in an uneasy place. Terrans and the rest wouldn't mind me so far.

Now, i don't remember exactly (played the game last night, was late) but at some point, i was researching "Enchanted Miniaturisation". When i pressed "turn" i saw that my +1 creativity gave me a different (?) tech. "Soil enchantment". Nice! So i press "done" and again i had another! "Xeno Industrial Theory". Wow! So i press "done" again and i had "Xeno Factory" ummm...right... "done" = "manufactory Centers", "done" ="industrial sector" "done" = well at this point i thought that this was some sort of bug, or my infected pc went berserk or Xeno himself was standing behind me and i simply continued clicking while staring at the wall, cursing my wasted effort, sure that the game will soon crash.

But no... After some good 15 and propably more (wait...they were more!) completed techs it stopped and went back to researching "E. M." as i left it. The game went on normaly and of course i won. Not really sure but i think after the "revelation" i had all the "Planetery Invasion" branch, the Xeno Industrial branch and the Hulls up to Huge! Now that was sweet!

So?... Anyone had that besides me, or has a clue what happened? I don't think it was my +1 Creativity (heh) nor my +25 Luck, nor my spies. I don't even think i had any spies (was saving money). Also, game difficulty was on Challenging. Odd, cause i always leave it Tough. Well i must had change it by accident. Plus, i always set everything on "Random" exept the race i play and the Technology rate (normal)

Thnx, excuse my poor english

*off topic* Why aren't my "bages" shown below my posts?

The medals show up only on replies, not on top-level posts. And you have to assign a Metaverse character as your 'default' character.

The only thing I would check is, whenever you're about to close out the Research screen, double-check to make sure you are still researching the tech you think you are.  I have clicked around and accidentally started researching something else before.

Since this incident is so odd, the only other thing I would guess is, this could be a mega-event gone bad.  Stardock probably has a bunch of half-coded and/or unbalanced mega events that are there, but are supposed to be turned off.

The only time I've ever netted such a wide range of techs was via a UP vote to share a number of techs with the other races.  Do you remember if there was a UP vote there?

Is it possible that you had the UP vote where each civ has to give some techs to all the others? It would explain the 15... 3 x 5 opponents. However, if you were that early in the game that you hadn't even met the other races yet and I imagine you're not playing on a difficultly level that would give the AI significat bonues, it is unlikely that those AI players would have had those techs either.

It seems that you hit some kind of a bug. I would be inclined to agree with Tetley. A mega event or UP vote gone bad... or good.

Propably a bug went...good. Cause it really felt good since i was in a tight situation, even if i was certain that the game will soon crash.

Otherwise, i really can't think of anything else and was hoping for some clue from more experienced players. And no, there was no such UP voting. I would 've remember that. Never had to vote for tech trade so far.

*thnx for the bage tip*

altermono, unless you are sure that you pressed the Turn button for every tech in that chain you describe, I think you really might have experienced the United Planets vote that Loupindor mentioned.

You would have had to press the button on the "Research Completed" page for each tech that fit the event's parameters. I forget the details, and it has been a long time since I've seen that vote, but if you've been doing different (or much less) research than the average civ on your map, the list of techs from this UP vote could be fairly large.

Well, that's what must 've happened. I just had that vote in game and after the "Yes" there was a lot of techs coming. Didn't wait to check all the techs since there were just 2 rounds left for endgame.

Thing is though, that the votting said "unique techs trading". Unless there is another kind of vote with general techs, i know that the "Planetery Invasion" branch nor the "Hulls" are unique. Maybe i m just trying to cover my hastyness here but i NEVER research "P.I." cause i simply wait to trade it, influence the planets away or make the enemy hand it to me.

Meh, i don't wanna confuse you guys anymore. Besides it seems that i was playing the game kinda fast and left many things unnoticed.

Many thanks for your help and tips. :moon:

Considering this wording was in place in DA (DL too?), which had no unique tech trees, and more to the point that one will typically get far more than four techs out of it, I've always considered this to be x number of "trees", if you will-say for instance morale improvements counts as one, etc.

My understanding of the 'unique techs' wording for this UP vote is that it means techs that only one civ currently possesses, i.e. no one else started with or researched the tech before the UP vote.

I've had that event with very few techs passed around and with a really large stack of techs. My guess is that the main difference is whether enough tech trading has gone on among the AI civs--heavy trading tends to homogenize the tech lists across civs.

That makes more sense.

I have no idea what I was thinking.
