Can't give karma to a thread root

I'm finally spending time at more than one site in the Stardock forum sprawl, and the Elemental pre-beta crowd has an edge on us GC2 folks: over there, you can give karma for the originating post of a thread. Why is the Thumb Up button missing here at galciv2.com?

It's not actually missing; it's just invisible. Click where it should be and it'll pop up. You can see this by hovering over it.
