Population growth vs Approval

According to the wiki,

The planet's approval modifier is:
- 0 if approval is less than 21%. In addition, you lose 10% of your existing population per turn.
- 0 for approval between 21 and 40% (pop doesn't grow).
- 1 for approval between 41% and 75% inclusive.
- 1.25 for approval between 76% and 99% inclusive.
- 2 for 100% approval without the Super Breeder special ability or 8 for 100% approval with Super Breeder.

But the approval number is green from 70% & above, and turns yellow from 41-69%.  Has the algorithm been changed since the wiki was last written?  I suspect 70% & above is now 1.25 modifier.

If I remember correctly, the green/yellow/red approval numbers indicate the probability of winning a senate vote. If your approval is above 70%, you basically can't lose; below 41% you can't win, and between is a crapshoot.

Numbers are as follows:

100%
76-99%
41-75%
20-40%
0-19%

Just tested in TA.

I assume as you go from Republic to Democracy to Federation, your approval level must be higher than 70%?  The game doesn't seem to use a moving average value for the approval during votes.  It doesn't seem right that years of extremely high taxes don't impact the vote as long as you drop the tax rate during the election year.

Also, whoever has heard of an evil Federation?  Sounds weird.

The color for each planets' approval does not coincide with the above modifiers. You can use the over all color as Willythemailboy said. But the colors you see on you planet list are different for each planet and don't give an idication of how the vote will go. I just go by the number and not the color.

To win the elections for Republic through Federation you just need a vote total that is greater than any other party. As Willy said, the color of your approval rating will help determine if you will win. I never checked to see how accurate that idication is. But you do not need to get a higher vote for the better government types. Which is why I think its odd that the game will ask you if you want to change. Why wouldn't you? There are no minuses to the higher government techs, only pluses. BTW.. the tech tree should show the plus to you economy walong with the pluses to democracy and influence.

Anyway, yes its kind of cheesy that you can change the tax rate for one week and still win the election. But thats just the way it is.I tend to be over anyway just trying to keep all planets growing all the time; keeping the highest populated worlds at 42% means that the smaller and newer planets will have very high morale.

I think the econ bonus is not listed on purpose. That bonus is only operative when that government is in use, but the influence and diplomacy bonuses are operative regardless.
