Is this game for me?

i was playing the demo the other day for dark avatar and honestly, i was kinda impressed since for the most part i play xbox and an occaisional pc strategy game. And this game is starting to rise on my list of games to get, but 60 dollars is alot to pay for the game and its expansions. And though some strategy games are pretty good (Sins of a solar empire is one that kinda stuck out), they tend to get repetitive or they rely on combat too much (which is perfectly fine in an fps of something of that sort, but i prefer managing economy and non-military related things).

And though unlike the normal xbox player, i am pretty patient and actually greatly prefer long and drawn out games over short games ( i like the idea that my actions at the beginning of a very long match majorly affect the later part of the game)

And since i keep borderlining on whether to get this, i thought that i'd just ask here and get some of yols opinion on the game.

Thx in Advance :)

Including the originals and the expansions, I have spent $100 on this game to date. For $60, I say this game would be a steal. And as far as PC games go it is money well spent. If you like Turn Based Strategy games, this is a great game. And you will be hard pressed to find better support and updating on a PC game. There are also few games that are higher rated (see gamerankings.com). If you like the demo, my guess is that you will like the full game even more.

The two highlighted preferences you state line up pretty well with GC2. Caveat: I've not played the expansions (yet), but they should offer even more options and I'll also say that $60 for the game plus 2 expansions is not a bad deal since I'll have to pony up nearly that much just for the expansions.

There is definitely a military aspect - if you don't have a good military force the other civs are pretty likely to see you as easy pickings and attack you. However, I win most games primarily through economy and influence, using the military to clean up the riff raff who don't join me late in the game. Since even in the base game there are multiple methods to win - military, influence, technology - and then different scenarios, I suspect you can avoid repetitiveness if you work at it.

you can also win by diplomacy and I agree with durhamTiger on that one given your post I'll say this game is for you

I got the whole game + both expansions and gigantic or even immense galaxies are probably the setup you're looking for

there's even buildings which allow to raise your military in the view of your opponents to keep them at peace

and you can also buy wars between AIs so that they are too busy to think about you ;) ....

overall winning by military is just an option not a requirement, even if getting a few is required
