Newbie question: are there fewer stars/planets in TA?

It seemed that the number of stars and planets (even when set on abundant) started declining in DA after about 1.6x.

Looking at the starting game in TA it seems like there are even less.  Is that correct?  Are the devs trying to cut down on the planet rush?

(BTW I love the planet rush.  I know that makes me a bad person.)

The number of races in the game may have an effect on the number of planet too! How many races did you set the game up for? Don't forget about minor races also, as they have an effect on the map generation.

Personally, I haven't noticed any decline in planets and if you'd like more planets, you can always use the map editor to add some.

Thanks for the answer.  Which program is the map editor?

You have to create a launch to  DRIVE:\GalCiv2\Twilight\TALaunch.exe

The default from the startup menu is  DRIVE:\GalCiv2\Twilight\GC2TwilightOfTheArnor.exe

Either edit or create a link to the TALaunch.exe. Then choose the editors menu and then map editor.

Yes they have been reduced some. I believe I've heard reports of TA Immense All Abundant maps having somewhere around 560  Planets. Newer DA versions gigantic all abundant around 720-760. Old DA versions up to 900+. I think it was due to the amount of out of memory errors people started getting when they introduced DA with that many planets that they have scaled back since.

Good lord - I'm at ~ 150 colonies in my current game, and have a heck of a time managing them.

I loved the old 900 planet DA.  Maybe that is what is causing my disappearing ship icon problem though.  I love lots of planets.

I actually had a 1.6 DA on an old computer and used it to create maps for later DA's.  But I updated it.  I hope I can get it back.

I wish they had a download area on this site where you pick the version that you want.

I started the TA editor.  Apparently it has no facility for putting in stars automatically.  Kinda pathetic.  You have to do them one by one?  I tried to put one star in and it took up the whole screen.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.

I vaguely recall there being an option to download older versions on Impulse?

You're thinking of beta/non-beta distinctions.  No such thing exists, to my knowledge.

Under the edit menu there is a generator for stars, planets and a few others. It will do a nice job of getting you started in your map.

If your star took up the whole screen you need to zoom out! You can pitch and roll the map in the editor, the same way you can in the game! This will give you a better view of the map.

I must be having problems with my TA map editor.  Under "Edit" I only see a bunch of Randomize options.  I guess this is what you use.  Any way to give it a number of stars or planets to add.
