I suck at war... any pointers??
As the title says, I suck bad at waging war in GC2... I can“t keep up with the AI's ships coming from all over the place... Is there a strategy guide somewhere???

There's an online "official" strategy guide somewhere, but I believe it is outdated (there's no longer a link to it on the GC2 home page).
These forums and the wiki have a lot of info. The forums have more, but you have to search for stuff or ask more specific questions. Lots of folks around here like to help out. There are lots of reasons you could be having the trouble you report, but it sounds like you basically need to get better at building your revenue and your infrastructure.
If you have good income and are just way behind in terms of fleet strength, one thing you can do is try bribing other civs into wars with each other. That often keeps strong folks distracted both from you and from developing their own infrastructure.
Some basic pointers:
Make more money and have more factories and labs. Infrastructure as GW said. I know, not always so easy. Basically you need to have better ships which means more research than that AI. This means that you will want to not go to war too soon. The best ways are getting potrential enemies to fight eachother (again, as GW said). You can also resaerch some diplomacy techs or have an early military which will help keep the bad guys away. Sometimes no matter what you do you will eventually get attacked.
I never have a good military early in the game, never. I build up my planets and economy and have other fight wars. I wait until the inevitable attack comes. But by then i can quickly build ships that i need. Usually I'll lose a bunch at first. So don't worry about it. Remember, you only lose something if you actually lose a planet. Otherwise its just a ship or two.
Research upto a good weapon and then put more into your military sklider to get some ships out faster. Better defences, hulls, speed, miniturization etc. are necessary at some point but you have to decide if researching more is better than getting some defence out there first and then getting better stuff later.
I hope this helps a bit. But it might help too if you gave specific problems or questions.
An early military gives the advantage of reducing aggression from your neighbours. It won't slow down an enemy that has completed some serious weapons research and has started cranking a war fleet, but for a reasonable weekly price you can get some insurance against opportunistic attacks. Which gives you more time to build up your infrastructure, perfect a certain weapon and start cranking out your own battlewagons.
Plus, that little bit of ship maintenance helps to keep a burgeoning economy from leaving you with a surplus over 10000/20000 bc.
