New player

Hey everyone. GameTap gave me access to this game called Space Empires V which seemed really neat but I read about all the bugs, etc which really hurt the game. Well after buying Sins of a Solar Empire I found out that this game was really similar to the SE V concept, had great support, and even better reviews. So I bought the whole bundle tonight. Now I have been looking around the net for information but I see a lot of stuff that is old and may not apply anymore. I figured there would be some stuff here but I am getting lost in the acronyms and everything else.

Anyway, anyone here have some good links to solid information that would be worthwhile for a new player to avoid frustration and wasted time in the game? I don't want spoilers or cheats, but some good sound advice and strategy for playing well. Thanks

Oh yeah. Where do we get the soundtrack? I bought the nice big package from Stardock so the money goes where it should. If I would have went to a retailer I could have got the soundtrack. It has to be around here somewhere. I love the music.

You already have the music. Look in the games installation directory and the subdirectories for the expansion packs. You'll find a folder called music that contains the games music in mp3 format. Enjoy.

Welcome to the GalCiv2 community!

For good information without spoilers I recommend:

The Galactic Civilizations 2 Wiki

It's gradually being updated to include the new stuff in Twilight of the Arnor.  It's maintained by players.

It contains a link back here to the Begginer's Strategy Guide.  This guide was designed for use in Dread Lords and should work fine for Dark Avatar as well.  Starting off in Dread Lords then working your way through the expansions may give you the best "bang for your buck".

There are threads around these boards for advanced strategies, but if you're indeed new to this game and/or genre, I'd recommend against reading them until you're gotten bored and need something new to try.  That's the approach I took, and helped increase the longevity of the game for me.

I should also have mentioned this post, TA101:

Its hands down the best strategy post i've read and should get you off to a good start with the game.

Thanks for all the information. There is a lot to take in at one time. Not to mention I am bouncing between Sins and Fallout 3 now.
