Confused regarding expansions

Hello GalCiv2 gamers,

I'm new to the game and confused regarding the expansions for galciv2.

As i understand it, the original galciv2 is "dread lords". Then there are 3 expansion "dark avatar", "twilight of the arnor" and "endless universe".

I have "Endless universe", and have been playing dreadlords (twilight is available for play too). But I don't understand how to play "Endless Universe", nor do I understand why it isn't listed here. Also, do i have to buy the "dark avatar" expansion seperately?

Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

Started playing dreadlords on saturday, ended up playing it for 12hours+ over the weekend, I have so much free time now the weather is anti-motorcycle :P. Looking forward to christmas holidays :)

Kind Regards

Endless universe is not another expansion pack, its the european release of the two expansion packs.  There won't be another expansion pack sold, but provided you have your game registered and have impulse, you'll be able to get a free update in a few weeks with almost as many features as a full expansion

Endless Universe = Stand Alone DA + TA

AFAIK the only lacking thing from endless universe is the DL campaign

I own "Endless Universe" myself and if you start "Dark Avatar" and choose the campaign mode, you have two campaigns to further choose from: Dark Avatar AND Dread Lords.

So the original Dread Lords(campaign) is definitely included in Endless Universe.

Yeah... sometimes I think game companies share Marketing Departments... Auran and it's TRAINZ product is the same way... Same products, packaged for different international markets with *mostly* the same features but different names... :\

I thought I had responded to this thread, but it must have been just as the forums died on me.

You can run the DL campaign from DA, or TA, with their respective mechanics, so it is unsurprising that Spezifisch was able to choose the DL campaign running EU.  EU is DA + TA, with no DL base game, but this does not prevent one from running the DL campaign from either the DA or the TA launcher.

This is my understanding of the notion that EU does not include DL, at least.

can't run the DL campaign from TA until 2.0 is out

(since EU can't use the beta updates as far as I know)

Valid point.  This, however, has no bearing on my post's relevance to the thread, as Spezifisch commented on being able to run the DL campaign from the DA launcher, which to my knowledge has always been possible.  I'm not certain that this is the case, as I wasn't present in the early days of DA, but in my experience it has been that way for quite some time.

Thank you for the correction, though.

I saw Endless Universe in Game today and I was confused by the description on the box which neither clearly states that the game contains DA and TA nor denies it. It said something about "following" the expansions and then later states "2 full expansions" so I was utterly confused. I got my girlfriend to read it and she was equally baffled.

What added further confusion was that I have recently paid £37 for a download Ultimate Bundle. Endless Universe sells for £19.99 and seems to include everything the Ultimate Bundle does as well as giving you a physical copy of the game.

Perhaps I am missing something but why is a download only version of the game selling for almost twice the price of the physical version? I have to say I'm feeling a bit cheated (not just price but also as I like to have a physical copy).

there's still something missing from Endless Universe (albeit it depends on your personal preferences whether this matters or not)

it's the "DL engine" and whole 'galaxy workings' with it (which are quite different than DA & moreso TA)
