Weapon Attack Power

How do the alien races get a beam weapon attack power rating on a small ship of 27? I've got advanced lasers IV researched and stoke 6 of them on a large hull and my beam attack power is only 6. The aliens can't have any more than 2 of them on a small ship. I even research heavily into miniaturization so I can cram more lasers on my ships. I'm talking in my territory, so they aren't getting a starbase assist bonus.

I've never been able to figure this out. Is it just because they have researched to the end of the beam tech tree? Or are there some other ways to get weapon power bonuses besides having a starbase nearby.

Thanks

They probably have researched farther down the line, and have several mining bases on military resources. The weapons on the ship only supply the base attack power, which is then adjusted by race ability, ability from mining, any bonus from a colonization event, and possible a couple other things I can't think of right now. It's not unheard of for all these adjustments to double or triple the base attack power of a ship.

Are you sure its one of the regular races?

There are several random events such as The Peacekeepers or a Precursor ship that pop up from time to time. Their ships have firepower like that. If its a Peacekeeper, dont attack anybody cuz then they attack you. I think there might be a Pirate event also.

It sounds like one of these events has been triggered. The attack power of 27 sounds real familiar......hmmmm.

click on the ship and see.

It's just some small ships of the Arceans.

Are there mining bonuses that apply even if their ships are beyond their starbase range? ie; when you build on a military resource? If that's the case, together with researching farther down the tech tree probably is the reason.

I went into the trade screen, and they were farther researched like plasma or particle beam.

All bonuses from mining bases are galaxy-wide.  A maxed out mining base can give upwards of 50% bonus to whatever it's mining, depending on tech tree. With bought techs, Thalans can get to at least 60%.

Plus, the Arceans have bonuses from the Stellar Forge and I think they might have racial bonuses as well.

Lots of bonuses available.  The red military resources are the best and you can have more than one.  You also get bonuses from the tech tree.

As mentioned above, with Thalan's and the right techs you can get to +60 on a resource node and +36 on an economy base.  These are all percentages.

You also get 1 or 2% from anomalies.  They add up alot during a long game. (with lots of surveyors)

Check you Civilation Stats for your bonuses.  You can get an AI opponent's stats from espionage.

These are percent bonuses.  So a ship with 30 missile and 30 armor might end up being 90 missile and 90 armor with a 200% weapons/defense bonus.  You can make some very powerful low tech ships this way.  Lots of fun for number crunchers like me.
