Black Screen when running under VirtualBox

Initially posted under the sticky but I think a new post might be more appropriate.

I'm trying to run the game under VirtualBox as I'm using GNU/Linux and since Impulse will not work under wine and there's no way to get a standalone installation.

I've managed to install the game just fine under VBox but I can't play it. After I press play, I just get a black screen and nothing appears

It seems that the game cannot initialize my display but I'm well over the minimum specs I believe.

I checked my prefs and they match my display resolution as well.
