Combat system smart for AI stupid for you?

So dont get me wrong i love this game, and i never say that about really any games these days, but have you noticed that your opponents ships will keep shooting one ship until it dies, and your ships shoot up ALL the other enemy ships first and 'then' finish off the first ship they started on?

This just isnt fair as far as im concerned.  This is how i school people in rts's, and if they dont do the same thing back to me they will lose EVERY time. Why do i have to have ships many times better then theirs just to deal with my bad pilots?

In theory your ships should never ever win in a even fight?

Are you sure? Both sides use the same combat rules. Are you talking about what you see or have you checked the combat log too. The thing is every turn all ships of one side are trying to kill one single ship on the other side (i think the one with the highest attack). If they finish it, they start to kill exactly one other ship. Hovewer the cinematics may look like different. Beam weapons fire very fast, torpedoes and rockets are flying some time. But for the game mechanics it is not important. Destroyed ship does not fire anymore even if the torpedo, that killed the ship is still on the way (cinematics).

You can find the exact mechanism here https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Ship_combat

It's entirely cosmetic. Mechanically, ships are targeted one at a time and knocked out before moving on to the next.

Then the combat viewer UI has long needed a makeover {grin}, at least down in the bottom where you see the "damage floods" on the individual ship icons.
