Moving DA crated ships into TA

how the hell do you make it recognise them??

Allright, I've got a problem....all the ship templates ive made in DA and all that time I put into those custom models...I would have expected to just move them into the TA folder and expected it to work

BUT now when I run TA, it doesnt even recognise them or show up anywhere, its like it completely ignores it

and further more, all the custom weapons and tech's and races ive made...if i even edit the GC2types.xml and put the old stuff in the game just cant take it and crashes...like what the hell is up with this?

what do I need to do to make all my files work with TA?

heres just a small example of something i made in DA:

Sadly, there is extensive editing involved to even get close to making any one ship transferable from DA to TA.

But, there's more tricky things;

-- most of the default models (components, structures, basic hulls, etc) aren't exactly the same (texturing was completely re-designed for memory efficiency - just one).

-- the "basic" group of files were also altered (cfg, style, xml, etc) with specific TA features (animated parts, etc) that aren't used in DA.

 

This whole stuff may also be adressed by SD coders within the 2.0 version by using the new external ship designer and simply loading up these DA files and 'trying' to edit the flaws and re-saving the new TA results. I guess another utility (which would automate such transfers) could also be coded if it isn't planned already at SD. The 'Editors' concept is provided in TA, there's not that much more work to do to allow DA_TA compatibility (i, for one, would certainly enjoy the Tech-Tree editor to load up a DA version and create everything from such UI) straight off the currently functional elements.
