Combat Suggestion (for v2.0 or GC3)

I love the the combat set up in that Shields block energy weapons, armor blocks projectiles and so on.  However, it is frustrating that a top of the line battleship, such as one owned by the Dread Lords, can be taken down with a few primative missiles if your armor is strong enough to handle their rail gun barrage.  I would like to see equipment included that allows for defense on all three categories.  What I mean is, a highly advanced shield will give the normal 5 points of energy weapon defense, but also gives say 1 missile defense.

Yeah...I could see that...but couldnt you also just add a missle deflector to your ship?  Sure it takes more space, but wouldnt a combo armor do the same?  I could see maybe it takes less space....but ehh I dont really see it working out

That's already in place, it just isn't advertised in the UI. Each defense type also provides its square root in protection against other weapon types. For example, Armor 16 also provides Shields 4 and Missle Defense 4.

But only one roll.

If you had armour 16 and were attacked by a beam weapon it would roll once against a defence value of 4.

If you had armour 16 and shields 10 it would roll twice, once against 4 and once against 10. It really pays to diversify your defences.

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that  16 armor provides 4 shields...I stand corrected.  Still then, I wouldn't mind seeing it shown in the UI.

It can't be shown in the UI. That was kind of the point of my post.

If you have 16 armour and are shot at by a beam the defence roll is beam vs armour.  Because it is a non dedicated defence the value is calculated as the square root. It doesnt grant a shields vs beam roll at reduced effectiveness it modifies the defence roll of the armour to reflect it is defending against something it was not designed to defend against.

Each defence type grants a defence roll when the ship is attacked. Multiple defence types grant multiple rolls.
