Super Races?

Just ran into a Super Race called the Sapains!!!! They research tech faster than anything, have ships that move up to 5 times faster than what they should be capable of,  and seem to be able to research more than one tech at a time.

What gives. They went from having no special colinazation to being able to colonize any planet in 4 weeks! They apparently researched this because none of the other civs had any kind of special colonization until after the Sapains did.

They created in less than 3 weeks both complete Mass Driver research up to mass driver 3 from mass driver therory and once again no other civ had done this yet. At the same time they completed research on the special colonization.

Talk about walking through my empire...they were able to have a single heavy fighter with no Ion, Impulse, or Warp drive engines be able to chase down a fleet equipped with single impulse 3 engines and destroy it in one turn. Invasions of my planets are fun as well considering that they do not have stellar marines or an equivalent yet they come in at a tech of 25 to my tech of 10 with Full defense platforms on my planets.

Anybody else run into this super race or am I the first? No this was not a mod but a regular game with everything set to random except size which was Immense and number of races which was set to 3.

well...i've never come across the Sapains, though i do know that when a new minor race appears in the game, they start off with all technologies that are currently available to all the other races.   Also some of the minor races have inherent abilities too.  

They sound like a milder version of the Dread Lords, which IMO is kinda cool.

I've played this game for months now and never come across the name? Been through most of the files too and still not heard of them... Strange <_<

Is it possible that you had a custom race changed via the file to give them very high natural abilities?  Then by picking random opponents, they got tossed into the mix?

This wouldn't be considered a mod, thus why I asked.

Hrm, so in thinking about this.  If the DL were already in the game with their uber-techs and a minor race pops in...now you have a race with a population growth, that knows how to expand well...with the DL techs.

Loupdinour I think you may the right of it.  So the game will use custom races as part of its iteinary when the random race selection is selected. How odd still because I deleted? the old Sapians race as not being competative enough as a custom player race. Until you mentioned it I had completely forgetten about them from back in the beta days.
