Default Galaxy Settings?

Hey - I just bought Dread Lords and have started to play around with it. However the galaxy settings look a little weird - they're set at abundant anomalies, which seems odd to me, with uncommon habitable planets (I forgot what the other settings looked like, it's mostly the abundant anomalies that struck me as odd). What should the default settings be? What's best for a new player to start out on? Are there any standard settings? And what difference do the various options make?

There are so many myriad ways you can customize the game to your play style and to explore new options, there really isnt any standard settings.  I would stay though that starting with a one of the smaller map sizes might be good, and just leave the settings as they are now.  It will help you to get a good feel for the game, and you can figure out from there what you would like to do for future games.

Welcome! :)

Anomalies, for the most part, can help you.

Why would you thing it odd that it is set to abundant?

Just make sure to get a few scout ships out there early.

I don't know, 'abundant anomalies' just sounded like an oxymoron to me.

That and the first game I played (which was on a small map with the default galaxy settings and five opponents - as the computer recommended) only gave me enough room to have one planet. Aside from that, I was literally hemmed in on all sides. Is that standard?

I guess i never thought about that before but its so true. Quite funny.

I have always played with abundant anomlies, no matter what my other settings have been. Anomilies will give you race bonuses and possibly cash. Of couse the AI races also get these too, so its up to you if you want tio change this setting. In DA, with a patch / update, anomolies will randomly appear after the starting ones are all taken. I don't know if the setting will change their rate of appearance but it at least gives you an incentive to have multiple surveyors. IN DL there is little reason to have a second survey ship and no reason at all to get the Galactic Guide Book.

I wouldn't say there are "standard" settings but the original settings for the galaxy when you install are pretty good for a generic galaxy. It'd be nice if you could reset to that with a simple button click after you mangle them by tweaking the various parameters.

PS - Love Stardock, detest their forum software.  Utterly detest it.  The only thing worse is the nonthreaded text based garbage that some sites use.
