cant use tech tree editor AT ALL :(

ok the tech tree editor is totally useless for me. ive installed and reinstalled from my disks and installed and reinstalled from impulse. i had the same problem before 1.96. if i open a premade tech tree and simply save it under a different name the game crashes at the loading screen. i accidentally opened the krynn tech tree and saved it instead of save as and now i cant use the krynn. i havnt modded any files and have not modded the tech tree in any way. simply saved it after opening it in the editor. this is extremely annoying because the tech editor is really the only one that i am interested in. i have no idea wat im doing wrong

The tech editor has an issue in it that the first techs might be placed out of order in the file--i.e., the first tech may require one after it, which causes a crash. If you manually edit the file and move that one down below its requirement, it should work.

soi need to do that after each time i save it then prolly rite?

Ah, this is good to know, I'd been having the same problem and almost given up.

Is there a general guide anywhere to using the editors? I think I've got most the basics sussed as a lot of it is very intuitive (profuse thanks, by the way), although because of the above issue haven't actually tested my modified trees yet, but it would be good to have some guidance. I'd never have figured this out on my own, for example, and I'm sure there are other common issues that will stump a beginner-level modder such as myself.

alrite thanks. i figured outa work around. save your custom tree. then open up a default tree in notepad and paste the whole thing over your custom one then save. then use the editor as normal. so i guess you dont need to do it everytime. wierd bug. hope its fixed in 2.0
