Need an Artist

Federation and Empire

I need an artist that could do portraits for my mod:    https://forums.galciv2.com/313557

The pics below are only meant to be examples and I'm using them only as I construct the mod.

Depends on your style I guess.  I'd like some realistic looking or maybe something like comic book like.  I've left notes on what the races colors are.

I'd appreciate it for any help.  Not looking for backgrounds but the portraits, shoulders up.  I'll give you full credit in the mod.

Any takers?

  Obviously Federation.

Klingon Warrior but he will need to be made up to look like and Emperor.  All he does need to be this type as shown in the Original series of Star Trek.  That is how the Star Fleet Universe had them.

Romulans.  As a Praetor this one could have the warrior outfit but I think a roman style toga over it would make sense or maybe what the Romulan senators wore in Star Trek Nemesis.

Kzinti.  Need 2 of these actually.  One for the Kzinti Hegemony(the patriarch so he needs to look like royalty) and one for the WYN Star Cluster.  Their color scheme is like a tiger.  I thought maybe the one from the WYN could be similar to a white siberian tiger.

Lyran.  Once again royalty.  A dark brown fur.

Another Lyran this one from the Lyan Democratic Republic.  Color as above but mayber a lighter shade of brown.

Hydran King.  They have 3 stubby legs which don't need to be shown.  3 tentacles for arms.  They are blue.

Gorn, well self explanatory.  Dark Green scales.

Tholians.  Orange rock gem rock in color.  Need 2 of them.

Veltressai.  They pretty much control the ISC.  Color?  hmm. Pink?  Oh and you see the other one to his left?  Yeah are all in groups for identical 4.  Every member of the face is part of quadrupets

Carnivons.  Only ones the Lyrans and Kzinti hate more then each other.  They fight like cats and dogs.  HA!  Brown or white maybe fur.  Actually white might be pretty cool.

Paravians.  Birds duh.  Maybe Blue feathers? 

This is a Seltorian Sage.  They are insects and they have a queen but since she is always "bare foot and pregnant" the Sages sages handle the government.  The are the former slaves of the Tholians, now they have come to our galaxy to wipe them out.  No notes on the color of their exo-skeleton.  I imagine it would be a dark green but we could be creative and have like a metallic pewter or something.

Orion Pirates.  Green skin.  Need two.  One male.  One Female.  Actually the male doesn't need to have green skin as not all Orion Pirates were Orions.

Deians.  They are not true members of the Federation only Associate members.  Still they look exactly like humans except every single one of them is had godlike beauty and they have a light blue skin tone.  I'd prefer to have a female one.

There you go.  Any help would be appreciated.

Although this may "look" like a daunting task to some, i'd be willing to help here with the entire group (since, i believe a coherent approach with thematic coloring and styles would be necessary).

 

I make no promise as to when these will be ready to be approved by the 'boss' but i must start somewhere.

As you've received some 'tricky' Orion slave girls from me already, i **now** know how you want to handle the portraits and with the inspiration examples above it makes the task a lot easier.

 

Be aware though that i must certainly try to gather many basic images straight off a number of sources and extensively editing that stuff with filters & warping tricks of the trade - so to speak.

As soon as i have all the 'sketches' done, i'll post them back right here.

Gimme a week or two!

And cross fingers everything works out smooth! (To the rescue!)

Okay, here's the 'basic' principle to which i want to adhere to while creating the entire group of images for these races. As an example only, i could remember some Court Jones art about a Kzinti leader and puts it here only as a reference.

 

My intention is to gather a series of overlays and modify the back chair represented in the original image below with Fed_Emp actual but final (which i sent earlier) logos, extensive recolorings of the whole context while inserting portraits and_or waist up renderings of leaders sitting on at different angles on variable designs of thrones.

The actual re-framing would mostly be cut it in half... thus focusing the facial details rather than the entire features on the image below...

I've been wondering, AF

What if you could get a formal permission from Dave McKee to use his wonderful work straight up rather than waiting for anyone to provide alternatives like mine.

 

As i have the utmost respect for genuine StarTrek franchise stuff, i doubt Paramount (or Kryo at SD for your eventual mod upload) would approve of what i have in mind;

 

I've made the Romulans & Klingons portraits already and these include authentic photographs of Commander Kang & Tebok with a few blending tricks -- well, maybe for your own personal use, you deserve it.

I guess my point is that to be FAIR to this Sci-Fi phenomenon, there isn't that much a modder can fake with.

 

One more thing i would need though before i proceed with the rest of them; Race/Hull/Trim colors for each of the above potential races, it simply makes sense to do a sort thematic backdrop for any. Right now, Romulans have greens & Klingons use reds.

By the way I hate the Tholian colony ship.  When the mod comes out there will be a new one.

Oh well, i was just asking for the "colors schema" but i suppose everyone looking at these teaser screens will be just as happy to catch a glimpse before some official release!

In fact, what's above is sooooo decayed i can't even make up the exact values; then, to make this a LOT simpler... i'd have to obtain the exact raceconfig.xml text file (if only, the colors section only - i like RGB codes, they're kindof precise!) pasted in your next reply.

Not familiar with the Kzinti Logo you've used, would you mind inserting it as pure original png in its final shape and size, too? The other Logos, i can handle.

Still taking notes about whatever you'll need to add... btw, just got a 'working design' for the Tholian leader;

 

- Pulled out the dusty ENT_DVDs and remembered that the episode 'In a Mirror, darkly' had a Tholian prisoner sequence.

- It will simply be a matter of extensive editing, enhancing some colors, resizing to 256 while maintaining proportional 'context', underlaying a background with a tilted blurry logo. For your image.

- I still think any McKee 'drawings' would suffice for the eventual distributable library file here, btw. His Tholian is kinda neat and accurate. The all colored ones can be found at MemoryAlpha in the Universe section, btw should you want to replace the B/Ws.

 

So far, so good.

(PS: Your Seltorians sage pic reminded me of some "Insectoid" portrait in MOO2.)

Which is why i suggested *trying* to contact Dale McKee himself rather than waiting for anyone at Starfleet Universe to provide you with formal permission(s) to use *COPYRIGHTED* drawings... although, the fair-use act may be enough in some cases. After verifications in a number of sites, or even via extensive Googgling for specific images that would fit your needs (for the distributable assets -- in all theory, btw).

There is certainly a reason why SD has never approved any Star Trek full mods (or specific content as it relates to authentic photos of actors & what else!) for upload here and most probably also why gamers can get such things from plenty of other external links only. What bugs me the most though is that THEY simply allow it for Sins. Unfair if you ask me.

Another reason why CoSH minors are represented by ship images instead of true portraits. I'm not even certain THAT will be allowed. If it isn't, i'll give up on many other groups of supplemental races (Star Wars, Sci-Fi, etc) for that mod and call it Super-Heroes only.

See, artwork is a complex domain. Quality or appropriate files to be found. Even, a matter of taste or personal judgment. Put yourself in my shoes for a moment; i made a bunch of Logos free of charge and you simply reject the Tholians (too blurry?) & ISC (glowing white effects was MY choice to enhance what i considered somehow simplistic).

PS; I have opted for the Afrosian UFP president Ra-ghoratreii (exactly as seen sitting at his desk in Undiscovered Country) as your *private* Fed leader - cuz he actually was in power in 2263 when the Fed&Empire context 'started'.  Toughest to find so far is a LYRAN version - but i'll manage eventually.

I wanted it to match the neo-tholian one that I had that's why.

I have opted for the Afrosian UFP president Ra-ghoratreii

I like that.

 

Also no rush but have you been able to take a look at the begining of the mod I sent to see where I messed up on the Tech Tree?  I'm kinda demoralized with the mod now since I can't seem to get it to work.

Yup, you've got a reply - have a look at those explanations.

Neo-Tholians logo - i could match it with the previous "style" and send it to you once ready. That race lives in extreme heat, i figured it was appropriate to factor in this effect by warming up their logo - so to speak.
