ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

LOL

I watched Bernard and the Genie last night so didn't play at all. Yes I admit to being a slacker.

Cross posting Staffa's comments on scoring as he seems to know about this sort of thing:

Well, it appears that military conquests scores signifigant points at any difficulty level. As theindividual rankings are based on a quality over quantity, this wont effect the individual rankings to much, butthis will have a pretty big effect on the team rankings. As they are based on just simple addition. Before my score was equal to about 100 begginers, nowit will only be equal to about 5. As pre 1.04 games were not calculated using the currentformula, old beginner games are still fairly worthless. But as players start submitting new scores, empireswith lots of active players of ANY ability willjump in score very quickly. So if you want to see G.R.O.S.S succeed, start puttingthe galaxy under our military control! Every littlebit helps and with the new scoring system, helps quiteabit. To sum up, for empires, new scoring system favorsquantity over quality and military above all else.As the empires ahead of us have a massive number ofmembers, if any chunk of them are active I do not holdout much hope of passing them
End of quote

Probably good news for us maybe. L0L if I could just find some time to play I could no doubt increase our score :)

and yes the EA are looking more and more like the EU - talk about art imitating life.

Cant wait for them to set up a system of rotating presidencies or for the first Eastern European to try and join :D

Yea, I can't believe (well actually I can believe all strange human behaviour) the way that some people conduct themselves in interacting with others. Stardock make a change to their game and some consider that if they weren't consulted that Stardock should be insulted. A post that said "Gee, this seems a little bit extreme for a nerf.." would have been sufficient. Instead, a few act like hysterical school girls.

Kiwi greg: isn't Staffa clinical about these things!

And yes Pontius, I did fall asleep at my game. Unfortunately my head rested on the next turn button and I ended up losing the game. Tonight though, you'll see the power!

LOL I just lost my first game at 1.04

My bad; 4 very attractive young ladies at work invited me out for dirnks and I am playing after getting home; really at my age I should know better!!

"what we have, we hold" fellas. We might have been pushed out of the top three for now, but just like North Africa, it is only a matter of time until we take it back!!!

Oh and incidently, how much does the AI take "denfensive ships in account" now? Are battle axes worthwile now?

I also think Staffa's contribution is very useful, but it isn't always cool - there was a thread (now removed, I see) where Brad and Staffa had a ding dong over suspiciously hacked (?) tech trees in his/her games. Disputing the rules, eh? Very kiwi?....{bowls underarm delivery and runs away}

I'd agree with the comments re scoring though, I just completed a mil victory for 700 odd Metaverse points (said 1024 on my screen prior to submission) and a cultural victory for 45 points (same small map - the mil vic was easy and the cult vic beginner) - can't work that one out?

Kiwi Greg: thanks for reminding me of what I COULD have been doing instead of staring at this computer screen....

Must check out the Euros - the hoo-ha over Hearts of Iron on those boards sounds like its reached outer space...

Don't worry. I'm sure you'll pass Apolyton soon for that #3 spot again. :)

Um, Kiwi Greg, just where are your priorities? And is 'dirnks' some new slang that I haven't heard before?

Dead Agent: I have yet to find out. Am interested in the answer.

Pontius: I find the new brimming with competitive confidence of GROSS just a little unsettling. I should also mention that Suzie is coming out of retirement AND is doing TV swimwear ads. Where is Misty I wonder?

Well I did play one game but I probably shouldnt have opened another bottle of wine after I got home.

The computer beat me handily so I went to bed.

Are you a HoI player too Space Wombat?

Kiwi Greg: I got really excited about Hearts of Iron, as I'd enjoyed Europa Universalis, but the release version I found to be a pretty ordinary experience (which in fact was the case with EU out of the box). I left it then, but kept an eye on the boards, hoping for a patch, as I think Patric and co have been just as good as Stardock in trying to improve the game and communicate with customers. The boards seemed to erupt with crap about the game at times (and not only the ones at Paradox). I've actually downloaded the latest patch (1.04?) but haven't really tried it out yet - I'd be interested in your thoughts if you've had time to road test it?

Sorry, I just HAD to post again - if you haven't been over to the Euro Empire thread, and want a laugh...do yourself a favour and scoot over to the last page of posts. This is how World War II started.....

I played HoI a lot over the last few months. I thought the game was very playable at 1.03 and there were some excellent mods (like N!ghty's).

I still think it is an outstanding game with tons of replay value.

I bought EU II on the strength of HoI but I got GalCiv at about the same time so I am mostly playing GalCiv

I initially liked EUII but got bored with its lack of character, and I worked out the economic way to beat the game which sucked the fun out of it for me (ie my fault- not the game's). I read a review which said HoI also lacked character so I never got it.

If you are at all interested in WWII get HoI. THe mix of unit types, countries, tech tree etc makes for mucho replay value. Germany, Italy and SU were my favourites to play.

NZ was boring as too small but Australia is quite powerful in the game

I understand that response; I was never completely comfortable with EU as my knowledge of the history of that time isn't great. I came in to these games partly through wargaming (from the simple Panzer General on upwards) but I could certainly get much more involved in a WW2 setting; definately wouldn't say that HoI lacked character. Mind you, GalCiv is a MUCH easier game to just 'pick up and play' for a few hours - I'd really lose the thread at times half way through WW2 if I was away from the PC for a few days...

Boy you guys are addicted to video games. What do your wives think?

:) LOL

My wife only allows me 2 hours of "Cave time" a day. And even then sometimes the puter better stay off or bad consequences follow.
:( But when she's out shopping, I sneak onto the puter more.

We need a southern Marauding force in G.R.O.S.S. You guys game? C'mon. You know you want to. Like Staffa said. the numbers aren't there. 40 is better than 20. Lets kick some impune buttoxe....
