ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

G'day horrorshow. Any insider ideas on how to sow dissension in the Lap Poodles? Oops, I mean, the European Alliance?

Dear All: My current game (large map, cheesy version 1.02) is dragging on. (Yes, yes, I'll update one day.) The Yor in one corner are on the ropes and being "assimilated" as we speak. I had set up 6 trade routes with the Alexians, and was quite disturbed when the Yor sacked their only planet. But lo, the trade routes automatically converted to become trade routes with the Yor. I didn't realise trade routes were with the planet and not the civ. Of-course, with the end nigh for the machines I will have to plan ahead and start sending freighters off to the Arceans in a far corner.

Next step is to declare war on the Drengin and destroy their 2 starbases (already have dreadnoughts positioned) and then demand reparations (last war with them I got about 4 techs and 100bc for 12 turns in reparations). By-the-way, I find that sacking planets is usually counter productive by the mid-game unless it is a sector which is proving hard to budge. Doing so takes away YOUR population, and decreases the sacked planet's population, AND its productivity. In most of my games I've let influence assimilate planets (slow but sure). I set up starbases in the enemy sectors before the assimilation, but also stack them with production modules, so that when the planet converts, the planet hits the ground running with greater production. Now I know that starbase stacking sometimes starts wars, so make sure you have all of the enemy ships shadowed so that your decisive counter-strike can take most or all of their ships on your first counter-attack. Rarely have I found the aliens will do a sneak attack in force. Then, if the assimilated planet is low on morale, I may buy a morale boosting improvement, rather than see it re-convert to The Independent League.

Anyways, should wrap up the Drengins tonight, and the Altarians tomorrow, and I anticipate another few thousand points. But don't quote me in case I get egg on my face. Heh heh. Perhaps ANZACs will break the Top 3 this weekend if we all lose our social lives, eh? LOL

very good oratory by Pontius where Pontius talks about: ALL scores being good; just play for fun; use current harder versions of the game in order to keep credibility in the Galciv metaverse (snort); be evil; be good; be true to yourself; don't skip school (that's mine actually); know yourself; forget your partners; be inclusive; exclude the Europeans; stay true to your Empires's name;....oh, I've lost my train of thought. Anyway, I agree with the bit about playing for fun. And maybe about not milking games for ridiculously impressive wow scores which could catapult one's Empire into 2nd position and ahead of the Lap Poodles*.

Actually: My position has been thus. Since the square root rule is applied to individual's before those individual scores are then applied to empires, one cannot possibly hurt an empire with low scores. It's mathmatically impossible. Thus, If you don't wish to play the games that get the big score's it's your decision. Bottom line, we have more points with someone in the empire than with them out. Also, The game version you play is up to you. My only rule is don't cheat.

I discourage, cheese tactics and milking because in the long run, after you've done that 5 or 6 times, boredom ensues. I mean a Warrior must have carnage now and again. Though how our warriors conquer their assigned Galaxies in this metaverse is also up to them. And we certainly won't get on their case for killing a few worms along the way. Our people deserve the best planets we can give em. We shouldn't let a few worms stop us. That is, unless of course we are pretending to be good as a ruse to move our planet killers into position near Torian space.

And Note: We do not exclude Europeans. Our Quarrel is with the Boredom of Frenchy and the Lap Poodles. Not Europeans in general. HEHE.

Uggh... a 5200 point game posts as anomolous. zero. two weeks work instead of netting me about 3000 costs me a net of 600. And the Canadians retain 10th. Oh that's special. Precious even. Makes me want to spend more time with the spouse.

A Kiwi Ultimate Frisbee team gave me a disk at Worlds, some years ago. It had a great motto:
"Ma te kaha Ka Waimarie"
(I think - it's been over 10 years!)
It roughly translates to:
"There is no victory without Spirit"

Pontius #56: Its called poetic license. I regularly misquote for dramatic effect.

G.R.O.S.S. accepts your complete retraction, and enjoys seeing you cringe in fear all the while backpeddling like a President that know's hes been caught with the intern. (Poetic license)

Did G.R.O.S.S. give you licence for poetry? LMAO would we ever give a licence for poetry? Would we even know any poetry. I think not. :)

Now a limerick. It's the only poetry I know. Well other than the pornographic ones.

Oh boy what a plattitude
You have shown a bad attitude
If you'd simply desist
We wouldn't resist
In sending a letter of grattitude.

Well I did write one in highschool about what a lame assignment writing poetry was. It recieved an F. I don't think the instructor was amused.

Just scraped onto the scoreboard by finishing my first game (a massive 73 points) - how on earth (or anywhere else for that matter) does Cataleptic do it?

Time to drink beer - at least the words European, GROSS and poodles that are circulating in my brain may make more sense after that. :CONGRAT:

Everything makes sense, more or less, after a beer or three, right! Now if only I can sometimes reign in the leader of my empire sometimes... But what am I complaining about? Pontius really has a great strategy: distract the other guys so that GROSS can slip on ahead. Kinda reminds me of Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII, you know: the cat shouting at the enemies through the megaphone while riding the giant stuffed mog? ;)

Heh heh. Pontius has definitely gone to bed. And you're right! I haven't played for so long that I forget the rules. I keep slipping a place each day. I've invested so much time in trying to disrupt the other Empires that the ANZACs have surged ahead. Doh.

Wow, Cataleptic is a gaming fiend when its comes to Gal Civ!!!!

Good news! I just received the game and have been eagerly toying around with different levels. Damn, I am starting to understand just how hard this game is!!!!

Can anyone give me some quick tech tree tips? I am getting lost with all the different routes and need some advice on what a solid tech rush path would be.

The key ones (IMHO) are a little dependent on the galaxy size. For small you need to get universal translaters. For large propulsion theory - cold fusion - impulse drive (speed and transports) is pretty important.

I always grab trade early on too.

Go to Javascout's Galactic Civilisations Database thread. He has produced the best tech tree which one can print in *colour*. Some prefer not to know where a tech will lead: personally, I prefer to know cause the roadkill certainly do.

My strategy: Early on I rush for Communication Theory, Uiversal Translator and Diplomacy. This allows one to communicate with the roadkill, and also move to a Republic (better economy), and to purchase the trade good Diplomatic Translators (for significantly better trades). Thereafter get good military techs and build up an offensive military, say Corvettes, (to discourage threats and to win the inevitable early wars). On larger maps one needs speed, so I go for Controlled Gravity (after Propulsion Theory and Artificial Gravity) and purchase trade goods Gravity Accelerators. Note that a few purchases over the longest period should usually be OK if your economy is strong (and for GAs you'll need a bigger deposit). If you don't purchase, you'll never get the good early game trade goods. Also, the greater your speed, the more attacks you can have on the one turn. 'Trade' is important soon after the early game colony rush. You can never have too much money in this game.

Referring to #54: I actually feel *mean* in how I just treated the Torians. I noticed their military had nosedived during a war with the Drengin. So, I telephoned the Drengin and announced I was going to war with the Arceans (with whom I had no trade). Unfortunately, the Drengin wouldn't give me any money for this. Then, I immediately called the Arceans and offered peace. They gave me 305 credits for 12 turns. The next turn they called and said that as I was so swell they were gifting me 106 credits for 2 turns! How sweet!

Tips: 1. Keep an eye on the military graph and exploit weak civs.
2. To declare war you don't have to be in a position to attack. Just tell another civ that you are going to war with their enemy, and see whether they will pay you for this.
3. It is possible to make peace immediately with the civ you just declared war on, and get HUGE reparations.
4. When the 12 months is up, guess what, I'm going to repeat.
PS: Still version 1.02, MAY not work as well on later versions. Game difficulty is crippling, large map, now in mid-game, Torians had 2,000 credits in the bank.
