Technology Trees Explained

Sorry about this but I just re-installed the game and I'm trying to make heads or tails of the new tech trees. I remember an old journal post by Brad but I can't seem to find it, and google reveals nothing.

So anyway I was wondering if someone could link me a good explanation of the various tech trees.

Without that I'm not sure I want to go through all the trial and error it would take to find the tech trees that agree with my playstyles.
