[DevQ] PlanetImprovements.xml

& custome races.

Hi, I have a question for any Developer or anyone who has the athority to answer this question:

Is there any chance that we could get PlanetImprovements.xml split up into seperate files, per race, like you did with the Tech Trees, so that we don't have to re-edit our version of the file every time you guys update it?


I am no doubt not the only person who has used the new editors that were added, but every update I have to manualy re-enter all my made up buildings because I don't want to loose the new ones you added. (Yes, I know I can append them to the end of the file, but then the editor that was added with the game is useless because I'll have to do everything in notepad anyways.)

I don't know if it is just me nit-picking, but every time you create a new race with new buildings you have to make it as a mod, otherwise the unique buildings you made for it are destroyed every update. Yet, the tech tree's have their own files, as the building .xml should be set up as well.

Would it be to much to ask for this one little thing? I'm not a coder, so I don't know how much would have to be changed to put in this one update, but it would save us a little bit of greif after an update at the least.

If you're only adding new improvements, simply use the mods folder, and put your xml file (including ONLY your new ones, not the core ones) in Mods\YourModName\Data\PlanetImprovements.

Splitting them up like you ask isn't really feasible because the improvements are not explicitly divided by races--they simply require techs, which could be in one or many trees.

Yet, if I do it this way, and load a mod besides my 'race' mod, then I can't play my race and a user created mod at the same time, right?

Atleast it looks to me as if I can only load 1 mod at a time, so if that's true, then this 'work around' isn't really feasible either? I don't know to much about mods ^^ Sorry.
