The AI mocks you

I was working on my Round 10 submission for the MVL, and I had this screen to pop up when I was about to invade the Torians.

This may be old news to some, but this is the first time I've seen something like this.  Just thought I'd share and see if anyone else has seen any comical messages in-game :)

The unfortunately stupid part of this is:

1: Regardless of what this clearly stock response says, it's still the only effective way to attack someone. Even in the real world: you mass up forces as close as you can, then you all charge in at the same time.

2: I have never ever had an enemy in this game properly react to a buildup of forces. Generally, I've had enemies react entirely incorrectly (declaring war on me when I'm massing for an attack on someone else) or not at all. But never has the enemy actually sent ships to my massing forces. Usually, when I lose a game, it's because I was militarily attacked while being passive, not because I was attacked while invading those guys.

This was the first time I've had the opportunity to attack someone before the UP makes the law that forces all hostile ships out of the area of influence on the declaration of war. What's funny is that I didn't "build up" anything, my ships were just on their way in and had only been in Torian space for 1 turn.

The only way that I have seen the AI react to a military build-up is by giving me money. I have several declare war on me if I'm evil and attacking someone else, but since I tend to go for Neutral alignment, this doesn't happen often.

I wonder what other clever responses the devs came up with for other situations?

Had the exact same message yesterday  :D  I almost laughed my ass of.. I had (have) a millitary rating of 650 something.. all the others has like 60-80.
Since all the good-guys desided to attack Yor i buildt a millitary base and gave them 10-15 fighters and 20 transports to fight back. The round before i was planning to give Yor the ships, the Iconians declared war on me due to the ships in their space..

That was a BAD mistake on their part :) I cleared out all theirs fighters in yor-space and gave yor the tools (2 precursor rangers and a fleet of small, medium and large ships) to take it up the iconians talepipe.

NEVER declare war on a dude which with one ship can destroy your entire empire..

Just so you know, there is a file called English.str in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\English" that contains everything the AI ever says to you. If you're not familiar with the files in that folder, they can all be opened with Notepad.

How do you capture the screen to be displayed like this one? I had Kroth surrender to me and gave me 22 ships and I have no way to prove it. X|

Atl-PrtScreen will capture the current window to the clipboard, you can then paste it into a program like Paint and save it.

Not sure how AI reacts in Arnor to build up of ships, but in Avatar I often get messages to the effect of: "dude, we've decided to declare war on you because you've got a nearby transport". I haven't seen this explicit mesage in Arnor, but I play on the higher levels, so perhaps the AI is just not telling me (back to that message about "intellgient" generals). The AI seems somewhat arbitrary at times in its DoW on me (not 100% arbitrary since evil, neutral, good alignment is respected) but AI does not always stop to explain its reasoning for DoW---I guess AI figures its fleets will show me about "rationalization" (!). 8C

Had the exact same thing with the Korx a while ago... :) I nearly fell off the chair when I saw it!
