If I remember right in DA and I also assume TA it gives a bonus to your minimum combat rolls. If you say have an attack of 4 or more you can never roll a zero as you'll always get 25%(with +25%luck ability)of your max.

My understanding of 'luck' has always been the same as DethAdder's. However, recently I saw a post in one of these forums (sorry, can't find it again) where the poster said that it increased your chances of finding lots of bc's when exploring anomalies. Does anyone have any evidence for that?

Actually, I have noticed that when I play the original (dont have DA or TA) I do get way better loot when exploring anomalies. When I dont invest into my luck ability I tend to get really low BCs from them.

But when I do use the luck ability it really helps out in the early game when anomalies are more common because I'll be picking up 2,500 BC like every few turns almost. Sometimes maybe a little less, like around 700, but even still that helps out. Also get better bonuses from anomalies, like increased troop strength or moral boosts.

I never knew it played a part in battle though. Neat

As far as I know in the original DL the luck did not help in combat. I believe it changed with DA to help your rolls. In fact I'm not sure what it does in DL.

I may be wrong about this but I use creativity and luck together when building a custom civ(universalists political party, one point on luck and one on creativity) ; it seems to deliver me techs ahead of schedule very often. Again im not positive if luck has any affect on creativity, but it has seemed to work for me. Also, with luck on max (+50), I will get Lucky Ranger capital ships quite often. In fact, during one match I found 3 within weeks of eachother giving me a pretty good edge at earlier stages of that game.

in DL:  Luck gives you better anomaly findings; it used to up your chances of finding a Ranger early too, but I believe that they changed it so that a few game years had to pass first.

in DA/TA: Luck at the least creates a minimum roll value on Attack like DethAdder said earler. I believe it also improves your anomaly finds

Thanx. I have noticed in battles with the same EXACT ships head to head in early game I have always won. When viewing the damage it seam mine was getting +1 and I dont remember seeing any zeros

LUCK is one of the best ways to win the game. Get yourself +50 LUCK and you're the one to get the Rangers. The first Ranger you get is this superpowered ship that devastates everything. All you need is that ranger and a fleet of transports. Go, go, go.

You also get follow-on rangers but they're second-class compared to that first ranger.

As a result of this "you will win" approach, I no longer set myself up with +50 luck.

Enhanced creativity, however, is one of my favorite uses of my 10 specialization points. I like to get my tehcnologies early. This is great for something like Planetary Conquest. That is, I set my military on 99% and my research on 1% so that Planetary Conequest should take something like 200 turns. While I'm pushing out ships at 99% military, eventually my creativity hands me a nice tech like Planetary Conquest (sometimes I sit on another high-cost tech). Assuming I was sitting on Planetary Conquest, I then swtich to production of transport. Soon, I'm ready for "phase 1 empire expansion".

["phase 2" will require consolidatoin of new planets to keep my economy in shape followed by increased drive speeds and possibly a corridor layout of starbases with +1 speed techs so that I can get to the planets that are part of "phase 2"]

Are the rangers a mega event?

I think it's just a normal random event, not mega.
