Broke my game & now can't get it fixed!

Even after a complete reinstall.

I wasn't sure if I should post here or in the mods. In any case, I was working with my mod but couldn't get things to work out correctly. The biggest problem had been that every time I'd start with the Terrans, the only tech they'd have at the beginning was the History of Extremes. I got annoyed & wanted to play the game a bit, so I clicked off Mods, restarted & voila! when the Terrans started, they only had the History of Extremes. I restored the Data/English XMLs & restarted. Same thing. I deleted every blasted file from my hard-drive, downloaded the whole blasted thing from SC again, installed, started a new game and... yep, the Terrans *STILL* only have the History of Extremes as their starting tech. At this point I'm very confused, because there should be no residue from the previous installation anywhere & yet this is still happening. Suggestions? Recommendations? Anything? I'm about to go bonkers with this! (Never mind the fact that I can't get my mod to work - would it kill someone to actually update some of the modding guides for TA? Specifically, which files from the Data/English go into which folders in the Mods/Data directory, the XML file structure of "new" files, what constitutes an over-write vs. a new creation (e.g., if I make a new engine tech, it goes in TechTrees but where do I put a file that contains a modification to the Stellar Folder tech?), that sort of stuff. Thnx!)

When you said you deleted every blasted file off your hard-drive, did you get both the ones in the "Program Files" directory as well as the "My Games" directory?

Ummm... crud, no, forgot completely about those. Sigh... Thanx for the heads-up on that - I'm hoping that's where the problem is lurking. After this week, I'm going to need a good, long session of stomping on aliens!

Yep, it's probably the custom race files in My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\.

Sorry for the lengthy delay in reply. What between the uncertainty of having a job to go to in the morning (gotta love this economy...), roughly half of all my friends & family having birthdays in August (including my wife & I - December in Wisconsin can get kinda lonely, I guess...), what-ever holiday we just had & was spent camping (beautiful weather for a change), I've gotten around to doing this and, of course, it works. Which begs from me this question: when I looked in that directory (My Games), there didn't seem to be any file that leapt out at me as being the culprit. Certainly, nothing like the XML files in Data or Mods or wherever. Anyone have an idea as to which one could have gone haywire? Sadly, in a fit of optimization (given that I'd not be able use my computer over the weekend), I cleaned out my trash, defraged the drives, blah blah blah, so I don't have any copies of the nuisance files any more. Sigh...

P.S. Hey! Where'd the spellcheck get to! :( For being such a word-buff, I'm awful at spelling (lost the 6th grade spelling bee on something stupid like receive - which I still screw up - but was able to not only spell pucilanimous, but correctly use it in a sentence. My teacher hated me.)

Since the 'alternate' Terrans file was automatically reconfigured with whatever data *IN USE* while playing under modded conditions - what happened is this...

- Your playing race **presumed** validity of all config files and used them as starting initialization formats.

- The locked out techno tree (being also valid - sortof) was, as it seem, trying to refer to a race dataset which DIDN'T cover the whole spectrum of required (or predetermined) techs. Such as those defined when customizing the usual tech-knowns list for THAT race at that particular moment.

- When reloading another game session, that new file still grabbed these values and ***also*** presumed the mod items were fixed data resources. Looping in 'History of...' only - since that is the only one present in the Terrans.raceconfigxml file saved into C:\My... for regular use instead of the default Terrans as initialized when there's no mod references to tie it with.
