Micro Management

I really love this game. I've spent hours like most of you guys enjoying this awesome game.

But there are things I really want/miss in this game. Its very hard to manage a big empire. I usually play immense maps. and when you reach 150 - 200 planets. The game becomes hard to manage.

1. 20,000+ GP penalty should be adjusted on map size.

a. when you have about 200 ships orbiting planets and you want to upgrade them. It would cost more than 50K. I know you can do a loan but if you opt not to get a loan. the only way around this is upgrade ships one by one per turn so you dont. suffer the -20% penalty.

b. When you have 200 planets and your economy is good you tend to earn more than 20k per turn. And you are forced to find a way to spend the  whats above 20k. I usually spend this on manufacturing facilities on my newly aquired planets. Problem is when you have to do about 5 - 10 buy-it-nows. you tend to spend about 2 - 5 minutes just buying them out one by one.

2. There should be an option on how many ships you want to upgrade.

a. when you need 100k gp to upgrade your whole fleet of 200 ships. it takes time to build up on the GP since the there is a penalty on your economy.  as I have said one way to avoid this is to update your ships one by one. till your GP is less than 20K. but doing that sucks. Very time cosuming. there should be an option to only update a number of ships so you can take out the next set of ships on the next turn.

b. I know there is a loan part but the interest rate on loans seems to be a bit high for my taste.

3. Launch ship to orbit only works with non military units. and works with military units after there are 3 units in orbit.

a. is there a way around this cause I usually want only one or two per planet. and there should be an option on how many military units you want to place in orbit.

4. Can there be an option that your ships will look for the un protected planet and orbit that planet?

a. Honestly trying to sort out which planet is not protected gets a bit of annoying planets are joining you left and right because of your influence and you dont know which one is protected or not.

b. there should be a rally point like the "attack" as well as " auto garrison" there should be a goverment option on how many per planet should be orbiting planets.

5. I really love turning off the anomaly found screen, but the other thing that irks me is my assistant always has to tell me that this so and so surveyer is turned off since there are no anomalies found right now.

a. when you have 15 surveyors patrolling your galaxy chances are you get that 15 messages in about 3 turns or so and I hate having to verify on each one of them every turn.

More to come but for now these are the things that I think could use some improvements.

Goods points.
I have tried to play immense maps also. IMO it is just TOO time consuming trying to manage all that (a month for a game). I found I enjoy maps no larger then medium and 90% of the time I just play small. I like a game I can complete over a weekend. Small maps on the harder are levels are 'in your face' right away.

Yes, there is an checkbox in the main Options menu that sets the "minimum number of ships in orbit" before an auto-launch occurs. It defaults to three...but you can adjust the number.

Hope this helps

I think it's found in the Korx tech tree to reduce some of the loan interest. After those techs and going neutral I think it ended up being cheaper to loan-buy something. At least for a while it did, perhaps they fixed that.

I agree, I think it may be harder too.
Anyways I enjoy smaller maps more because the micro-management gets overly tedious.
Reminds me of civ2 when I had over 300 cities and turn would take 5 minutes, 4 and a half of those would be clicking through the city screens for each city that finished an accomplishment.
At least this game has many options to have things automated AND not popping up in your face all the time.

As for the survey ship issue, I just turn off anomalies in medium+ sized maps because:
1, they are overpowered imho.
2, even in smaller games where I'll have 1-3, I'll get really annoyed with those pop-ups.

Thanks that solved one of my problems.
