Modding a game mid-way

Searched for this but didn't see anything so sorry if I missed it... I have a game already started that has become terribly unbalanced (a few empire with 30 plus planets, a few with single digits...). Is there anyway to edit so that I reassign ownership of planets from one empire to another in mid-game?

Where's the Jagged Knife mega-event when we really need it?!

This can be done... but only if you have the entire save-game file structure nailed and know exactly what hex_slots need to be changed.

Sadly, there's no such utility for GC2. Unless, some genius out there could code it for us. Besides, genuine SD "new" Editors (if you ask me) should really have that much power, btw.

There is another way.

Save game and quit. Restart the game with cheats enabled.

Pick what empire you want to give another empire planets to. Click Ctrl+Shift+Z on a planet or ship of the giving race. Enter the trade screen and gift planets as you like.

Now, why didn't i figure this indirect trick also?

It sure is another way (MUCH easier, btw) to re-distribute anything as we please and it can be done through the trade-screens.

Do you have to do that for each planet?

Yep, but being right there in the interface to do it is a _*_LOT_*_ simpler than having to externally go through a saved file and finding the correct items, one by one. Then, editing it... and hoping it will work.
