what does allow ai to use cpu intensive algorithms mean?

eh? is it code for "get ready to lose" or what exactly does it alter in game?

sorry if this has already been asked.

IT allows the AI to do things that are normally disabled to reduce the system requirements/turn time. IIRC the biggest difference is that the AI plans further ahead, and designs new ships more frequently.

Do you get more points for winning with that setting ?

The AI's are much smarter and gameplay is more rewarding. This is with tech trading off of course.

Has anyone actually noticed smarter AI behaviors when using CPU intensive settings? What else does the AI do besides designing more ships?

AFAIK this has changed over the different versions of the game.

I do know that for DL this just allowed the AI to redesign ships more frequently. Conceptually this could mean that it would be more likely that you would have to face ships with the AI's latest technology instead of technology that was 6 months old. However in practice I don't believe this made any noticable difference.

In DA I think it's pretty much the same although that's a total guess and I'd be interested in hearing from someone that actually knows.

In TA I wouldn't even hazard a guess, but again I'd be interested in hearing about what improvements have been made in this area.

I think after playing with full AI on challenging that the game was... more challening.
Somehow i think AI was more aggressive.

What version of the game?

Actually I'm also interested to know what is the exact impact of the intensive algorithms on different game levels.
I remeber having switched it on once in DA, got pretty terrified of the AI's performance so I never touched this ever since. I mean, it's already spicy enough to jump to an upper level...

However it would be interesting to know more about it in figures.

I'm playing this game on Challenging difficulty with four other opponents (one of them surrendered to me), with the AI Always Use Max CPU option turned on via the menu. According to the manual, Challenging sets all opponents to Tough difficulty, which is 10% economic penalty and advanced algorithms.

I assume this is the highest the AI can go in terms of complexity, and harder difficulty levels do nothing but give the AI more economic/production bonuses.

I had HIGH espionage on several other races. I scanned all their planets, and NONE of them had built any farms. At all. All the planets had 8.00/8.00b population, except for their home planets. Even though one AI (the light blue Altarians in the screenshot) was quite ahead of me in population, economy and military.

What gives?
