Wildy fluctuating economy.

Ok, I have only recently started using trade as a major part of the game so am still not familiar with all the nuances involved. One thing I have noticed - when I have a large portion of my income derived from trade - my monthly income fluctuates wildly. +200 one month, then a couple of turns later -100. (not ude to random events - boom/recession etc). I am assuming this is dependent on what trade ships are leaving/arriving?
Not a huge deal as it just means having to keep an eye on my spending every few turns - but wondering if I am doing anything wrong.
I have managed to make it a little less wild by setting up a couple of short trade routes - which don't pay as much but bring in a small but steadier income. Any other tips?

You get varying amount from trade depending on how far away your trade ships are at the time; The further away the more income they generate.

Elrikk, that would only be a problem IF the stars moved. The last timed I checked they didn't. The income from trade should be the same each and every turn except if the planet was invaded or the trade lane attacked.

The longer a trade ship has been away from home, the more cash it brings in per turn. If one of your trade ships had just completed some 400 length route, it's not unlikely for you to lose a couple hundred BCs of income.

AntWriq,

Not sure what you are going on about. The last time I checked I was just relaying stuff that the devs have said; not justifying the logic behind it. ;)

You can also get big fluctuations in trading income as the trade ships move into and out of sectors that have a starbase with +trade income modules.
