Scenario editor... sigh...

I wouldn't call the editor scenario editor. You can't do anything with it. It's just for limiting techs, defining teams and having some special victory conditions.

The editor is badly lacking. One cannot make events triggered by certain thing (go to sector x.y, multiple ships spawn for race a), one cannot disable UP with it...
It's pretty much ruining my Halo mod project. How else i'm going to make my mod work? I meant to have some cool events and UP must be disabled.

What the heck i'm going to do?

Yeah the editors do suck. I don't care about that one, but the map editor is no better. They are poor excuses for commercial game editors. I'd expect these kinds of editors if the devs had created them never intended to release them, but eventually caved into pressure from gamers who were willing to take anything they could get. Not something released as part of an expansion, and arguably the most important feature of the expansion.

And the UP... ugh. That thing is in such need of an upgrade it's nuts. Instead of the stupid espionage downgrade they should have made the UP much more detailed, moddable, meaningful, and interactive. I know we can alter some minor stuff regarding the votes, but there's so much more that could be done with it! And yes, it should be flexible enough that you can even turn it off if you want. Why can't we get UP enhancements patched in before this game is forgotten? Nuts!

Well i apparently have to live with the limited editor and make Halo mod a sandbox and couple of custom maps with it... not going to work really...

I see you are your usual peppy self today :D I would agree though,

the editors are not that useful, but compared to having NO editors, they are a God-send. I am pleased with the first edition of these editors because they are even there. I suspect that as they update the game, we will find the editors updating as well.

Unfortunately there's only so much the editors can be made to do; they're basically just GUIs for the XML/text file modding. They can't be made to do any trigger-based scripting because there just isn't anything like that in the game engine to begin with.

I do believe we're working on a scripting engine for the fantasy game (and by extension, GC3), so those should hopefully be a lot more flexible than GC2 is.

I understand the difficulty and am pleased there are editors at all.

Maybe the following are easy to add, I dont know? Making an option so the randomize all doesnt put all the same quality planets in, thus forcing the user to manually change all those stats? Or an option like, "spread out stars" randomize? Or an option like "Not 5 planets every star" randomize, or an option like "not tons and tons of resources" randomize?

As it is I see only randomize stars, planets, resources, no further option keeping it from loading an immense map with 300+ class 10 planets

Just the same settings as a new game like: Rare, Uncommon, Common, Abundant, whatever for stars, planets, resources; also, the: scattered, close clusters, loose clusters would be a superb add imo.

I may be missing something to this point already in the editor, but i have not as of yet found it, so lemme know if it already there Kryo and I'm just not seeing it.

Thanks

Fair enough I guess. I will refrain from the inappropriate wisecracks this time. ^_^

Creation of a scripting engine could be *huge* if it's powerful enough. (*ahem* United Planets scripting... hehe)

I like the ideas in the post above too.
