XCom Anniverary CD-ROM

Vista Compatibility

So a friend and I found a XCom CD-ROM with all 3 games on the CDs for a whopping 4.99 USD, and when I load it on my computer (with Vista), it installs fine but has no graphics.  I can hear the game running, but can't see the game.

Now, when I installed it, it asked if I wanted to load DirectX6.1 and I said no, because its older.  Would downgrading the DirectX make any difference, or does anyone know if there is a link or some such thing I can install to make the game compatible with Vista

I guess if it only needs DirectX 6.1 it would probably run in Microsoft Virtual PC.

I'm pretty sure Xcom is abandonware. You can go to abandonia.com to get all these versions. My suggestion is to use the dosbox version, as I've always had problems running the windows versions with XP. I'd imagine in Vista dosbox would be the only way to go.

You pretty much have to get MS Virtual PC and a copy of Win95. Yes, Win95. It doesn't run in Win 98 or beyond. I loaded all that back in 2004 and had a blast. I still love the game. UFO: Extra-terrestrials is close, but you have to get the mods. It had avery strong community at first.
