newbish modding question

Hi all, I am new modding ToA.

I am have been having fun playing each of the various races but find certain races have super abilities that are to say the least undesirable for my playing
style. However, I wish to otherwise use the race characteristics provided
in the stock race.

I therefore went about making a copy of the RaceConfig.xml, editing the super ability for the race in question and placing the new file in a Mods subdireectory under C:\Program Files\Stardock \TotalGaming\GalCiv2\ Twilight\.

I named the new subdirectory "NewRaces" and created a directory tree that emulates the required path (i.e. NewRaces->Data->English) and placed my RaceConfig.xml inside there. Lastly I went to my prefs.ini in C:\Documents and Settings\dk\My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor and told it to use the correct new mods subdirectory. Oh and of course I turned on the "use mods" button in options and checked that the new mods folder was being used.

Alas to no avail. The silly Altarians still have Super Organizer and not Super Warrior. Can someone tell me what I am missing? There must be some way to accomplish what I want to do here, right?

P.S. doesn't work either if I place it in the Default folder and assign the game to use that folder. Very confused.

The mod folder setup is different to the stock one. A RaceConfig.xml would have to be in Mods->ModName->Data, with no English folder. Also, a ModDescription.xml has to be present in the root mod folder, you can copy & edit the one from Default. Also make sure you've started a new game.

also, make sure there is a ModDescription.xml in the "New Races" folder.
