Thanks, Island Dog. I've been looking for something like this, and was having a little trouble making up my mind on which one to choose. I'll give this one a try.

CCleaner is probably the easiest way to do basic maintenance on one's machine. And its as simple as one click. :D

Thanks ID for the heads up on the update. This is my favorite utility program.

So how good is it on the registry? Worth it not to buy the PC Tools product?

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history.

I don't use the registry cleaner part of it.  I did a few times and it really messed up some associations especially with Microsoft Office.

Thats what they make regedit for. However for unwanted clutter u cant beat this program. combined with spybot s&d, and adaware they are the 3 best 3rd party tools you can use for pc maintanance

I, on the other hand, haven't had any problems... so, YMMV. Basically, I think that it comes down to, "If you don't really know what you're doing, don't mess with Reg stuff." This is especially true when something is hit and miss like this.

But for cleaning random crap off your machine? Heck yeah, this is awesome!

I do use the Reg cleaner ,but I don't work with MS office apps so I haven't seen that.It doesn't go too deep, but it is handy for cleaning up leftover entries after an update or uninstall.I ignore the unused file extensions, there's a lot of things on my PC I don't use often.I expect them to be unused.I do scan for and remove anything else it finds and have never had any problems.I like seeing 0 registry errors,I assume it's a good thing.

The cookie management/removal is far better than anything else I've tried so far. This is one free product that is well worth paying for,and I wouldn't want to be without it.My mother installed it on both of her PC's on my recommendation and loves it's ease of use and simplicity(She's no spring chicken)

Mixed reviews. But I think I will give it a go on the registry - on a throw away first. ;) It is poluted and it is eitehr clean the registry or re-install, so I will not be killing anything but time.

Thanks.

Used it, and it worked great. Cleared up a surprising amount of clutter from my hard drive. As Wizard1956 stated, it doesn't go too deep into the registry, but I don't necessarily want it to, either. No problems whatsoever. I would recommend.

Another great feature of CCleaner (one I use the most) is the uninstaller. It loads much faster than Add or Remove Programs. It is practically instantaneous.

First use, and review - my son gives it 2 thumbs up! Ran it on his second computer and it really made it peppier. Now on to the main machines (and I ran the reg cleaner as well - no problems).
